How to restore data in calendar widget?

My s7 had been lagging terribly since the latest software update, so this morning I spent time making sure to back up everything before I did a hard reset. I was able to restore everything else; however, I can't get a lot of the appointments I had saved in the calendar widget to reappear. Some things are there, but others are not, even though I *thought* I was backing up my most recent calendar. Anyone have any suggestions? I've searched online for hours and think I've tried everything possible on the phone. A lot of the suggestions I was reading pertained to the Google calendar app, but this is for the widget.

The Widget doesn't hold a specific calendar (unless it's a 3rd party app's calendar app/widget), so it should only read from your phone calendar app.

If you open the App, do all of your appointments show there? If not, are you sure said events were saved to an account and that aforementioned account is already added/synced with your phone? If the calendar item was only saved to your phone and not an account, or if they weren't synced back to the account prior to your factory reset, unfortunately those would have been lost.

If the events you're missing ARE in the calendar app (also make sure you're displaying all calendars you need and that any account/section isn't hidden), try deleting the widget from your homescreen and re-adding it. That would, in theory, force it to re-sync data.

Check Google Calendar. That's where the Calendar app, and the standard calendar widget, should be getting their data. If it's there, make sure that, in Settings/Accounts/<your Google Account>, you have calendar sync turned on, If you didn't, the data you entered in the phone never got synced, and you probably never backed it up. If it's being synced, and the data is in Google Calendar, it will sync to the phone.

Thanks for the suggestions. Only a few events are showing up - they're the same ones I can see when I log into Google Calendar on my laptop. I have several accounts between Samsung and Google that are linked to this calendar widget. They were all "on" when I was backing up my phone, but I guess something got lost in the transition. Ah well.

I think I'm just going to have to bite the bullet and not use the widget anymore and just download Google Calendar on my phone. Now if only I can remember what appointments I already scheduled! :)

Using the widget or the calendar app won't make a difference if you're not allowing your accounts to sync back to the cloud! So either keep using one account for all your calendar entries (and make sure that it's synced) or ensure that all your accounts CAN sync. Also, locally-saved events will not be backed up unless manually exported.
