How to retain WhatsApp chat history when locked out of phone that hasn't backed up since April 2019

Hello,
The screen lock on my phone has malfunctioned and I am having to do a factory reset. Only problem is I don't want to lose all my WhatsApp chat history. Unfortunately the phone hasn't been backing up Whatsapp so the most recent backup to my Gmail account is April 2019. There is also no SD card in my phone so there is no internal backup.

I have WhatsAppweb open on my computer. My question is ...will this retain the chat history if I have to reinstall Whatsapp on my handset?

If not, is there any way of retaining the chat history?

I don't use WhatsApp, so I don't know if the history is retained on the phone or on the server, but:

1. If it's on the phone, no. Which is why all computers (including phones) should always have all important data backed up at all times

and

2. If you can't get past the lock screen, doing a factory reset might not help.

Hi thanks for this, turns out it wasn't a malfunction and I've been able to get back into the phone. On the plu
s side, I'm a lot better-informed about WhatsApp backup tools now!
