The OTA updates only upgrade one version at a time. If you accepted only 1 update and are currently at VD, then you were previously at VC. If you accepted 2 or more OTA updates, then you were on V9 or earlier.

To see your current version, look at menu->settings->about phone

If you want VC, then just flash directly to VC using the substitutions in the reference section. There is no need to flash V9 first. The instructions default to V9 because that is what people flash to get rooted.

after revert to vc, phone worked fine, hot spot worked, but then i got prompt to update again, i clicked on more info , shut off my phone replace battery and restart again and its now stuck on LG logo from last 15 minutes... any idea what went wrong and what are my options ...???

I know what you are describing but haven't heard of it happening in the sequence you described.

You could try the "unbrick" thread to try and flash in emergency mode.

Has anyone tried this lately. Trying to revert my mothers phone back to V9 from VD so she can use her wireless tether again. I've been running TR on my phone since November, and went thru the whole LG updater going from V9 to VD a few months ago with no problem. She accepted the OTA VD update, so of course I am trying to use KP500 to force flash V9.

All drivers are updated. LG update tool is up to date. ADB reads and is communicating with her phone. LG Updater is acting like its communicating with phone and has reset it in while analyzing. Steps have gone seamlessly until p) and the LG updater gives me this:

I know one solution to the "extractinfo error/extract cab file error" is making sure its named right. Ive checked thru cmd to make sure that my cab file is named correctly and isn't cab.cab like some individuals were mentioning.

The LG phone updater is giving me this error:

Updating is not possible any longer due to a fatal error while the LG Mobile Phone Software Update

then says something like select contact button for LG Mobile Phone Software Update online.

Anyone have any ideas?

Just a thought and hopefully not the case, but what are the chances that through these threads LG has figured out what we are doing as far as force flashing different versions to gain root, update without losing root, etc. and has block out path? I don't know why LG would care so I wouldn't think this is the case and I'm sure were missing something basic.....atleast I hope so.

rcr0413 are you rooted already on V9? If so you shouldn't have to use KP500 to upgrade to VD, atleast I didn't. All you have to do is is us LG Updater tool to upgrade.

If I recall steps are as follows, but there are different threads in here that talk about it.

1)Nand back up your current settings in your custom recovery.
2)Place whatever custom ROM you want on the root of your SD card
3)Use LG Upgrader tool to upgrade from V9 to VD. Once upgrade is complete phone completely reboots. Once is rebooted power phone off.
4) Power into your custom recovery with the volume down, home, and power button combo. Make another nandroid backup. Flash whatever VD custom rom (ThundeRom, Nrom, etc.) you want to run in your custom recovery. Reboot from there and you should be good to go.

Those steps worked for me, but again I'd search the threads because its explained elsewhere.

Both your errors have to do with a problem with the cab file or filesystem. It could either be:
1) cannot find file
a) not in the same directory as KP500
b) renamed improperly (even if it looks ok under windows explorer)
2) file problem
a) corrupted cab file
b) incomplete cab file
3) file system problem
a) permission problem
b) out of space problem
c) create directory problem

Eventually you'll figure it out and in hindsight it'll be obvious what was wrong, but until then it'll seem like everything was done correctly. I don't say that for all errors, but with this particular one, that has been my experience.

I suggest going back through the instructions, paying special attention to steps (e) through (i)

If your checksum matches, then the cab file is correct. Move on to the other areas I listed.

It could be a permission problem as well. Are you running as administrator or some lower privileged account?

Could you perform the second half of step (h) and post the output?

Trying to revert from a Win7 64bit machine

Honestly I'm not sure if it's an OS issue or something else but I figured win7 was still pertinent. I'm having an issue which I am about to post all the logs for while I'm at it I had a second question.

I apologize if this isn't really the right thread for this but:
--Being of a linux background and having played around with several android ports I'm really wondering.
--Is it not possible to flash the revert image using fastboot?(if so this would actually work in windows to but I would prefer to do everything from linux, I trust the computer more)

Regardless of my above curiosity I decided to use the outlined method as it is documented to have worked.

I have installed the LG tool aswell as the drivers for the optimus s. I've confirmed the phone is mounting properly in debug mode in usb by checking deviceman by seeing if ADB was present:

As you can tell I have it running in compat mode for XP, I've tried SPs2 and 3.

I have tried reseating the usb cable before hitting restart aswell as simply attempting to restart, everytime I get the same outcome.

Also i Turned off power turned on power and service is back to normal

If you look at the directory listing I provided in step (h), you are missing the following file:

08/03/2009 01:15 PM 86,016 LGMobileDL.dll

Please unpack the KP500 zip file to obtain this file and try again.

Also, it would be difficult for the revert process to have permanently caused the service problem you described as it has not done any writes to your phone, only reads. If it had gotten to the write stage, then it would be possible, though still not likely.

Step (h) from first post
The output of the above "dir" command should look like this:
(make sure you have at least these 5 files, one file is named LS670ZV9.cab and the file size is 99,220,700)
(if your directory does not look like this, STOP here, figure out why)
