How To Root AT&T Galaxy S3

Re: How To Root S III

I have been trying to find an alternative method for rooting my s3. I have tried using Odin 6 times now, and every time I have had to completely reset everything.

If anyone knows of another way to SUCCESSFULLY ROOT my phone, please let me know. I have figured out most everything else...even rooted my previous phones. This is driving me nuts.

(just FYI if any one else gets the "firmware upgrade has encountered an issue" message, open Keis, Connect your phone to your pc, under the tools menu in Keis click on "firmware upgrade and initialization" enter your model number and S/N, and follow the prompts, it will restore you back to the original firmware.) Took me forever to figure that out.

This is probably the easiest way for the AT&T S3... Root your device EASILY! [CASUAL] [Linux] [Windows] [Mac] - xda-developers

I tested it on Win 7 64 bit and it worked fine on the AT&T S3. It uses CF autoroot, so it will install SuperSU. From there, you might want to install ROM Manager and select the option to install CMW. What you do from there is up to you, but I really like CM10.1 on my S3. :)

If you've never rooted before, make sure you read and understand the method you are going to use. Definately make a backup of your current ROM before you install another. Also, be aware that there is a flash counter on the S3 - AT&T will be able to tell you've flashed the phone unless you use something like "triangle away". So...again, if you have issues and need warranty work you are going to want to be able to return it to non-rooted stock.

Yes, thanks for that pointer. I ran the linked Root Galaxy S3-CASUAL R515.jar, and everything went smoothly! Using Ubuntu 12.04 here.

Re: How To Root S III

Here is a link to a straight forward method of rooting the S3. I have used it on my phone successfully. Just take care to do the rebooting with the proper buttons held down as the 3rd reboot is different than the first two reboots. Thanks to all the folks involved in the working this out. And as always, rooting your phone is done at YOUR OWN RISK.

Re: How To Root S III

I am with you. I think the best would be to look over general "before you root guides" until phone specific content comes out. Also, it is probably not the best idea to root the phone until a method comes out to return the phone to stock. Oh btw, I am also a first time phone rooter!! Rooted my kindle fire and turned a non usable device into a serious ipad competitor. Definitely sold on rooting.

Re: How To Root S III

I just installed Cyanogenmod on my AT&T GS3 using the installer available on the Playstore. Went off without a hitch. Sweet. Don't know about returning to stock. Is not my daily phone so it doesn't matter to me. The site probably explains all.
