nah, you should be fine.

- Download the ZIP of a ROM you want. Use your computer to download, then once complete place the ZIP onto the root of your SDcard. Do not open the zip, do not rename the ZIP. Simply download and place on root of SDcard
- Go into recovery
- Make a nand backup. should be one of the options in there probably listed backup/recovery
- Now that you have a backup, you need to wipe factory and cache. These are probably under an option called wipe but i wouldnt know as i use amen RA. You will also need to wipe dalvik. To do this (assuming your on clockwork mod recovery) you need to go into the advanced option and wipe dalvik.
- After you've wiped all 3 listed above, you can select the option to flash zip from SDcard.
- Navigate to the .zip file you save in the first step and flash it

Remember, not doing a backup sucks if something goes wrong during flashing. Not wiping will cause bootloops and in some cases chaffing!

recovery gives me red triangle with an exclamation mark- I though maybe b/c battery was low-- but it wasnt the case-

this EVO is a f'ed up evo

Hey ... There's no crying in rooting. Man up, we'll get through this! :D

Red exclimation mark means a recovery image didnt get applied.

1) During simple root did you click the second button which applies a recovery? If not, you need to. If yes, go to # 2.

2) Please download THIS. This is an older version of simpleroot. This is the 3 button method. Please go completely through all 3 steps. I know it seems kind of redundant but try it and see what happens. You need to make note of any errors or issues that come back and bring back exact descriptions and such.

damn-- i guess it would have been a good question to ask 1 or 2

i am dl'ing --- when it asks for clockwork or RA which do i choose

That's personal preference. Some people like clockwork mod, some people like RA. If you're asking my personal preference, I prefer RA.

ok--- doing the nand backup etc--

there is no dalvik wipe in advanced in clockworkmod here--

i did dlavik wipe from titanium--- i am installing steelrom now-

it looped.

so this is it? can't use rom manager ? or maybe once I install steelrom things will change?

What version of clockworkmod are you running? I'm pretty sure the newer ones have Wipe Dalvik Cache under the advanced menu, also "Clean Up Dalvik" isn't quite the same.

I've been following this thread intently throughout to do and hope you get on your way soon enough. I'm really confused about how the wipe dalvik isn't there.

1.8.2.2 clockworkmod- I too know there was dalvik wipe in advanced last week before all this stuff.

i did a clean cache again, and reinstalled steelrom.. and the result is.....

LOOP-

restoring nandroid-

nandroid back on-

maybe the new simpleroot will have a newer clockworkmod that has the dalvik

I am going to try

Before trying ROM manager, safe to assume you followed the steps I stated before regarding the SU app, the SU binary (server is working again) and busybox through TB?

Also, I told you it would bootloop if you didn't wipe all 3 :p ... all 3 must be wiped from recovery. The option is there, you just need to find it. One of the reasons I prefer RA, all wipe options are tucked safely in a menu labeled "wipe"

Slow down a sec,

before flashing a rom you need to wipe:

cache
system
data
dalvik
sd-ext

You are on an older version of clockword, I know all of these options are in there but I'm not 100% sure where they are, you're time would be well spent in either upgrading your clockwork mod or getting these partitions wiped properly.

ok-- new clockwork is installed--

system, data, and sd-ext are under sd card area

all 5 have now been wiped

trying to reinstall steelrom

finally-- steelmod is on phone-- version 2.2 !!!

doing this now.

next....

Do I put all my apps in here and back it up?

How do i back it up-- create another nandroid from hboot?

ok now ... you don't think you're done do you? ::shakes head::

HERE is your new radio image (2.15.00.09.01) and PRI (1.77_003)
HERE is your new wimax radio

ANNNND here are your instructions ...
1) Copy the radio zip from the first link above to the root of your sdcard, however you please.
2) Boot in to recovery and pick ?Flash zip from sdcard?
3) Pick your zip off the list and then hit the button to tell it to flash.
4) When it finishes running it will tell you to restart your phone. Just pick ?restart? off the top of the menu.
5) After you click reboot it will say ?writing radio image?. Your phone will then reboot to a picture of a phone coming out of a box. It will stay there for about 30 seconds, just leave it. Your phone will then reboot again and it will load in to recovery.
6) After it boots in to recovery it will say ?formatting cache?? and will show a status bar for a few seconds. The phone is done as soon as the status bar goes away. Just click reboot and you?re done.
7) Follow these eaxct same steps for the wimax radio DO NOT FLASH THEM AT THE SAME TIME. Follow the steps completely for the radio/PRL .... then after a reboot, follow the steps completely for the wimax. I want to say it again ...... do not do them in the same recovery session. Reboot between flashing.

I'm done after this so enjoy!

1. Rom manager now works.!!

2. After I do the updates above- radio and wimax- which I assume completes my steelrom?? Do I then create a nanroid from the hboot or backup from rom manager?

3. Thankyou again for the patience and the help
