How to save bluetooth profile

I'm on a stock 4.1.2 install with a new HTC One. I have a plantronics bluetooth headset for driving. I *never* want to play media audio through the headset, it's only for voice. But every time I reconnect the headset to the phone the media audio is re-checked in the bluetooth profile. This is absolutely maddening. I see no way to make the setting (unchecked) persist through connections. Would love to find a way to make my choice of settings permanent.
