How to set Wifi device not to be used for data

I have fitted a dashcam and it has a wifi function which works but my phone (HTC U11 plus) wants to use the dashcam wifi connection for data & internet access. How can I set the phone not to try to use the dashcam for data?

Most likely you cannot.
Your phone can only talk to one wifi router at a time.
Your dashcam is pretending to be a wifi router so that the phone can get the pics/videos.
The phone does not realize it is not a real router.
All cameras with a wifi connection create this problem.

Try going into the developer options on your phone, and turn on the option that says "keep the mobile radios on during wifi". This might allow your phone to get an internet connection while attached to the dashcam.
