How to slave ringtones on Nexus 5

It seems that MP3 or ringtones can ne saved only on SD.
Is it true? Can I save and sue as notifications or ringtones even on Nexus 5?

Just put the mp3 file in the ringtone folder and you should be able to choose it. I have 3 in mine for 3 different people. I don't think it works with notifications though.

Either you use USB cable or download from Dropbox etc.

Just remember if mp3 file is in ringtone folder then it's auto detected.. If not then you will have to link from people app for specific contact.
