How to stop Samsung my files app from using so much data?

Hello, I recently filled up my Samsung Galaxy note 9's storage and went looking at where I could clear space. I went to device care, storage, advanced and noticed that "other apps" was using 40gbs! When I clicked on it, the app using the most space was the "my files" app. It had 35gb of data used. Why is it doing this and how do I stop it? My phone already has 30gb of photos on it so it's basically using up twice the space for my photos.

Welcome as a new member.

I may have misunderstood you, but surely your photos would be included among those files?

Hi, welcome to AC!

Where so you see that under apps or battery stat?

I see it under device care-storage-advanced-other apps.
Just out of curiosity... from that list, can you tap on the My Files app? It will take you to the main listing for that app as it would if going to Settings > Apps > My Files. Either way, once there, tap Storage. What does it say for the sections "App", " Data", "Cache", and " Total"?

On my phone, My Files takes up all of 88MB, total. One of smaller space users.

Also, is it set use the trash? That holds deleted apps for a period of time. Files arent usually included as part of the My File data. But they could be considered part of My Files if it holds deleted files for restoring later.

It said 35gb for data. Cache was pretty small, I don't remember exactly and then the total app was around 40gb total. It was taking up a ton of space.

Yeah... that's a lot.

I'd clear the data. I don't know what it keeps, other than sign-in information if you are linking any cloud storage services to it. I do have Samsung Cloud, OneDrive and Google Drive linked, but you can just sign back into those services again.

Still curious if you have the Trash turned on in the app settings. Mine is off.
