How to switch (transfer data) from Samsung to Pixel?

Ok, I gifted my brother a brand new (but initialized) Pixel 8 Pro, and was using a Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Plus.

From searching online, I cannot find a proper method to transfer pictures, contacts, SMS, etc to the Pixel without using the initial data transfer wizard during the OOBE setup (though I couldn't test this myself.)

My brother tried installing Smart Switch on both the Note and the Pixel, but they fail to see each other via WiFi and when the USB-C cable is used, the cable isn't detected and he keeps getting the message to plug in the cable. He's using the cable that came with the Pixel.

Anyone have any thoughts on how to transfer the data over?

I recently switched from the Pixel to the Samsung fold and everything transferred over Wi-Fi with Samsung Smart switch..hmmm

You can also install Samsung Smart switch on a computer do a backup from the Samsung phone.. you can then connect the Pixel to the computer and do the transfer

From what I've seen, Smart Switch is only for going TO a Samsung and not from a Samsung to a non-Samsung...

I mentioned the Smart Switch anecdote above for the sake of completeness, but I don't think it was supposed to work anyway.

Make sure the backup is on Google, and use that to transfer. Apps will be re-downloaded from the play store. Pictures, files etc. will come from Google.

I transferred from my S21 Ultra to my Pixel 8 Pro. I could have sworn it was just baked into Android, or maybe the Google backup helped facilitate it. Everything transferred except the photos in Samsung Gallery, but I have both OneDrive and Google Photos, so that was a non-sequitur.

I've been messing around with this for too long also. Trying to go from a Samsung to an LG. Backup on the Samsung is done and up on Google, LG says no data backed up. same google account on both.

I don't want to initiate a backup on the LG since there's nothing on it. I don't care about photos and vids I've already taken care of moving those. I'd just like my apps and settings to come over. There's a bunch of Home Automation stuff on there, I really dont want to have to log into a zillion things again.

Does the LG not see the backup because different OS levels, different manufacturer?

In this case, I used MacDroid because the Pixel 8 Pro was already set up. SMS and call logs can be backed up to Google Drive from the Note using the SMS backup and restore feature and then restored to the Pixel. Smart Switch won't work with the Pixel, and without resetting the Pixel to use the OOBE wizard, a manual transfer or transfer via an app is the most reliable option.
