I know there is a battery icon in white that fills up, but when its fully charged, does it say "100%" on it or anything? Or does it just show as a solid filled in white battery icon?

It will show a solid battery icon. if it is still charging it will show a thunder synbol in the battery icon.
thats how you know its charging.

or when you press power button in lock screen it will say "Charged"

I use an app called "light flow" to control the led when charging. Surprised that's not a built in feature. I have it set to blink yellow when charging, then be steady green when fully charged.

You can set the led color for any notification as well.
