AC Question

Hi there,

I'm not much of a gamer anymore but there's just this ONE car game I really enjoyed playing on my old Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini (called "Horizon Chase"). It's purely a solo game and offers no cloud support for transferring save. I really really want to transfer my save progress from the old phone to my new Xperia XZ.

Problem is, all methods I found online involve plugging the old phone to my PC, and using a file manager app such as "Helium". This I cannot do, because the micro-USB port of the Galaxy S5 Mini doesn't work anymore - when I plug it to my PC, it charges all right but that's about it, the Device Manager recognises it as "Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)" and I can't make any USB transfer.

However there is no problem transferring files through Dropbox, so if I could just know where the save files are located I could achieve my goal...!!
As far as I know, files for any app are located in Android\data and Android\obb, and turns out Horizon Chase has a folder in both. But copy-pasting them into my new phone (which already has the app installed) doesn't change anything!

The support from the developpers just said they can't help me with it, so I hope someone here can. It doesn't make any sense to me ! The save files MUST be located somewhere in the old phone, it can't be magic! So how come transferring every game file to the new phone doesn't transfer the save progress as well ?
The only way it makes sense to me is, apps store files elsewhere, in a location I'm not aware of.

Back up the data to Helium. Copy the "carbon" folder to Dropbox. Back up the game on the new phone, using Helium. Copy the files from the S5's Helium folder to the new phone's Helium folder. That may allow Helium to restore the data. (And the S5 has to be rooted, since you can't connect the data pins to a PC.)

Dude thanks for help and all but I honestly think you haven't read my message; I said I can't use Helium, because it asks me to plug my phone to the PC, and my old phone can't be connected through USB anymore for some reason. I'm asking for another method, for example telling me where the app data files are located so I can transfer them through dropbox.
I hope you'll keep helping me with this issue.

Or maybe you understood, but you think I can back up the data to helium without connecting to PC! I apologise if that's the case; but when I run the Helium app, it doesn't let me do anything until I plug it to the PC. Apparently to back up data you need to run Helium on both the PC and the phone at the same time.

Oh the old phone is still under kitkat. It's worse than no MTP mode, it actually doesn't recognise the phone at all. If I had to guess I'd say the micro USB port just became faulty and there's nothing I can do about it. But if you think it can be fixed, then by all means!
