I know this one sounds simple, but I cannot get it to work.
I'm not talking about mail settings for say gmail, since those came over fine and gmail pretty much just syncs.

But, I had a lot of mail in two POP/IMAP accounts that I was using the stock Samsung mail app for.

Even with the Samsung accounts set to "sync" (there really isn't a check box for MAIL just MESSAGES) and with backup and restore setup, doing things like moving apps and settings (which settings) over using the samsung smart switch software on both phones and using a USB cord, NONE of the mail accounts (for the stock mail app) came over and of course none of the mail.

is there some way to do this?

And how does one get apps to come over with DATA like passwords and settings and stored items possibly. Everything else just seemed to come over as the stock app - requiring a complete sign-in for all apps and of course nothing setup.

Set up the email accounts, set the refresh interval to none (or 0 or off) and the retention time (how long it should retain email) to 2 months, a year, forever, whatever you want.

POP3 email is downloaded to the device, and deleted from the server. It's for one device.

IMAP email remains on the server until you delete it.

So if you're looking for email on a POP3 server, it's not there, it's on the device it downloaded to. (And on a Note 4 it's kept in a database file that you don't have access to.)

Bottom line - always set your servers to IMAP.

Thanks for the response.

wow, so no real way to transfer email from one phone to another if it isn't in an IMAP solution?

bummer.. I do use IMAP for several of my regular accounts, but some older ones are either POP3 or deprecated IMAP
