How to transfer mp3 to pixel?

I used to plug my phone into my computer and transfer my mp3 to the ringtone folder for cool music when the phone rings. How do I do that with the pixel 3 xl? I was not sure what to do with the C port. Thanks in advance!

Exactly the same thing. Plug one end of a USB-A to USB-C cable into your PC, the C end into the 3XL and transfer the files. If all you have is the charging cable that came with the phone, either fine a USC-C to USB-A adapter or, better, buy a USB-A to USB-C cable. They're all over Amazon and eBay (and local stores, like Best Buy and K-Mart [and maybe Walmart] may be carrying them too by now).

Also consider using the Google Play Music app. You can upload your own music into the library, then in the app you can tell it which music you want downloaded for offline listening. I get it if you prefer not to, but if you haven't tried it, it's worth considering. Works great.

When you first plug the USB cable in to the computer and then to the phone...
1. Pull down the shade and see "Android System - Charging this device via USB".
2. Tap on this message for more options.
3. You will then see a full screen dialog to choose how to use this USB.
4. Choose "File Transfer"
You can now see the full file structure of your Pixel on your PC.
Using your PC, copy files from your PC to the appropriate Pixel folders.

I was trying to to it by transferring the songs to Google Drive, and put them in the correct folder on my phone, not using a cable. I thought the suggestion above indicated I could do that?

I was showing an alternate method that I find easier to use.

Downloading from Google Drive will put the files in your download folder on your Pixel.

Using the USB cable you can easily see the full file structure of your Pixel and put the files in the directory you want.

Use the "Files" app to move files from Google Drive to your phone.

You could also use a file manager to move files on your Pixel to the folder you want. I use an app called "File Manager" downloaded from the Android Play Store.

Yes, to add to my post above, there are a number of good, free file manager programs on the Play Store. I use Astro. A good, user friendly file manager is a useful utility to have.

Agreed, I do this too and I highly recommend, it's a good way of having access to lots of your music and playlists without taking up lots of storage space.

If you select "Share" there's an option to 'Save to Drive.' From Drive you can download to your phone. Odd that there isn't an option to download directly to the device you're using. There is an option to 'Copy to clipboard' but it's unclear whether it just copies a sharable link to the file or the file itself - I think likely the former, but I didn't try it myself.

In the Play Music app, open the album, and below the album name, toward the right side, above the list of songs, there is a circle with a down arrow in it. Tap that to make the album available offline. It will be downloaded into the app's storage, so you won't see the song files on the phone, but it'll be available offline.

I'm not currently seeing a way to do it for individual songs, but I do know that if you set the setting for the app to cache music, even if you don't tell it to make certain songs available offline, if you've listened to them lately they'll likely be cached and available offline.

As an alternative you could use the Zedge app to download all kinds of ringtones including music and select thrm for your sounds and contacts.

If you download a song using the Play Music app, it's only for offline use by the Play Music app, and can't be manipulated by the user. You need to download the song from your Play Music library site on your computer browser, then transfer that mp3 file to the phone's /Ringtones directory (either via USB, or by uploading the file to Google Drive on your computer, then downloading it to your phone from the Drive app). The song will then be available as a ringtone.
