How to transfer pictures

I'm trying to transfer pictures on my Samsung Galaxy S4 to Iphoto on my Macbook.
How do I get the computer to recognize my phone?

On my phone when i plug to my comp. Theres an option to transfer data like pics and music or do i just want to charge it. Check your phone if it has that notification. If your phone doesn't charge then either your port is broken or the wire is. I have a g3 but all android should be similar.
