How to turn off 3g

Anyone know how to turn off the 3g on the Captivate.

I like to keep my phones on the Edge network to save battery life...plus where I live the 3g network is overtaxed and I get more consistent phone and text service out of Edge.

I can't figure out how to turn it off, though.

Hmmmmm. There should be an option to only connect to 2G networks, but it looks like Sprint nuked that, too.

I think you mean AT&T

I've tried a couple and none do it.

Surely there's a way to disable it?

It didn't seem to work. Plus, it just shuts off data services and that's not really what I want to do.

I want to specifically turn off 3g access.

I appreciate all of your effort, but that doesn't appear to work either. There is no choice displayed for "GSM Only" after I create the shortcut. I chose all of the other choices and it never wavered from 3G.

I like in an area where the 3G isn't great and so the phone is constantly switching networks. From what I can tell, the battery life on this thing is going to be much worse than on my old iPhone 3G.

so far I seem to see better battery life then my 3G, but i was not in a low signal area.

I thought for sure that one would work, but it was a different version of android, so you never know. I wish everyone would be consistent in their menus. Many Moto phones on 2.1 have options to toggle 3G.
