How to unlock phone to switch to a different carrier

Android Central Question

We have Verizon as our carrier and I have a Motorola Droid purchased in August 2015. No longer have a contract and want switch to Consumer Cellular

Have you spoken to Verizon about it? If an unlock code is needed, they would be the best source.

Verizon hasn't locked their phones in years, there isn't anything you need to do to unlock it.

Unfortunately the Droid may not work with Consumer Cellular. The Droid line was Verizon exclusive and Verizon runs off CDMA technology for their network, Consumer Cellular is a GSM network, and the phone may not have the hardware required to use a GSM network.
