Do you have the superuser app in your app drawer?

I'm having this problem too. I also have SuperUser installed.

omg i figured it out.

mark.t: make sure your phone is on and not at the lock screen. when you type su, superuser prompts you (on your phone) to allow permissions. just type su again and pay attention to your phone so you can hit allow

Just to let you guys know i used this intruction to unbrick my phone. This is what happenned. I acidently do the hard reset on my phone(##RTN) running thunder V1.7. The phone just boot up recovery then i used this intruction to unbrick it. Thanks!

1) Plug phone into PC
2) Enable USB Mass Storage
3) Download the V8 to V9 update and place it in the root of the USB Device/SDCard as "update.zip" (renaming it is important!)
4) run the following from cmd prompt: "adb reboot recovery"
5) You are now at LG's dark-blue recovery screen (should only be 4 options, if not STOP HERE)

I accidentally named the file "update.zip" instead of just "update." Can I just select "reboot system now" and try again?

I am trying to revert back to the V9 recovery so I can use the control center thing to root the phone. I have already reverted to V9 but still have the VC recovery. Do I have to root the v9 version to be able to follow the abd commands? I am completely lost on this.

Thanks for any help

You can run adb commands without being root.

However to run the flash_image command (so you can restore the stock V9 recovery), you need to be root.

Your goal should be to get adb configure to run, open an adb shell session, run the root exploit "rageagainstthecage", then flash_image the stock V9 recovery.

are there updated links? both the recovery and flash_image links are broken on the first page

thought my phone was done and bricked.... followed instructions and my phone now works properly great job =]

anyone have a current mirror for the 1st 2 DL links? the links in the post are dead. I want to put my wife's phone back stock she's having issues with her phone that are hardware related and i need to get it to a point where i can take it back into sprint.

You could try the simplified procedure in my signature.

this process works but will take many runs. I never got the process to work by going straight from VD to V8, you may need to step down each install one at a time. I'd also think i'm over thinking this, just use KDZ and force flash to FD, sprint has to accept it as it's a sprint push. the other option is go down to VC wait for the OTA notification, just to be extra sure, though it's really not needed.

I've flashed straight VD->V8, VD->V9, VD->VC many times (as well as V[8|9]->VC and V[8-C]->VD). They all work.

KDZ and KP500 share the same firmware flash routines. The only difference is the front-end that specifies which files to use.

V9 gives you maximum flexibility whether you decide to return or not because both Android and Recovery are rootable. VD is the better option if you have the new LCD.

KDZ and KP500 both completely overwrite your system.img and boot.img. There are no system remnants so it is hard for it to "not work" especially if you are clearing out any remaining data.img and cache.img remnants with wipe data/cache.

I know folks are interested in doing this in order to get the new Radio, but is this really necessary for bringing the phone in to repair? I'm on the road most of the day today, and have a faulty headphone jack (which means it thinks there is a headset in all the time- PITA!) and won't have time to do this before bringing it in anyway.

With my HTC phones, I always just threw a stock rom on there so that a hard reset would look the way it should and no one seemed to care about the bootloader.
If my phone is repairable, I'd rather not go through the hassle of doing this just to re-install everything when I get back. If its not repairable, they'll issue me a replacement and I'll have to do this either way, but on the off-chance they can fix it quickly, what do you guys think?

I'd like to go ahead and say that Sprint reps probably won't notice the custom recovery, and if they do they probably won't care. In that case, I'm thinking I should just back everything up with Titanium, and then go into settings and hit upgrade FW, right? Technically this should all be possible OTA, if I understand correctly?

Has anyone had any experiences otherwise that I should know about?
