Newbie here. I own a Samsung Galaxy J4 Plus.
It was working perfectly.
I did a factory reset.
It's stuck on UI 1.0 and Android 9.
It has a problem that causes it to restart when the screen times out.
Hoping an update will resolve this.
Is it possible to update to UI 2.0 and Android 10?
Software update option on phone says it's up to date and has security patch dated Dec 2020.
Is there an easy way to get it updated?
Is there a hard way to get it updated? :)
Thank you.

Thank you for your interest Kizzy.
How would I establish that for sure?
All my internet searches on the subject suggest that the J4 Plus can run UI 2.0 and Android 10.
The problem is how to install them. Or force an update.

Hi, welcome to AC!
You would have to download frija from XDA forums and extract it on your PC then put your model number and region to see if that update available and flash through odin which h would need to download on your PC from XDA website. If not then keep checking software update in settings occasionally to see if there's update available

AH! HHMMM!
FRIJA? XDA? ODIN?
Some self education and research required by me. This I will now go away and do.
Thank you for those suggestions.
I'll be back!!!

Mustang can talk you through it if you can find the software and install it to your PC.

Just a progress update in case any other newbie is following this thread.
I have downloaded and run FRIJA on my Win 10 PC
I have supplied it with the phone info and in return it has downloaded five .mdr files
I understand I will only need four of these when I run ODIN. I'll ignore the HOME_CSC one.
I have downloaded and installed the USB drivers for the Galaxy.
I have located a USB cable to connect the phone.
I am now trying to determine which version of ODIN I should use.
This is proving difficult to be certain. Looks like 3.09 is my best bet but not certain yet???
Lots of severe warnings about using the correct version - else the phone is bricked.
More research required

Use the latest Odin 3.14.1 or newer

Well, the deed is done. The phone is working!!!!
The ODIN (Ver 3.14) file xfers took only about 10 minutes.
This worried me as one of the files is over 2GB. I put it down to a USB 3 connection.
ODIN popped up the word PASS in green letters.
The ODIN log looked good with no bad words!!
Many thanks for your advice and help.

One more question please:
If FRIJA only offers me Android 9, must I assume that I cannot expect to run Android 10?

J4PlusMan.

Awesome

Frija gives the latest Android , so check every month see any new update , look at your build number to the one it shows in frija
