How to use new ringtone as notification alert

I made a folder on the sd card in my Samsung Galaxy S II i777 and put a ringtone on it that I downloaded from zedge. It's on the phone, but there's no option at all to use it as a ringtone. Spent 45 min with a few reps at Samsung, and one of them finally said "you can't do it". He didn't sound too sure though. There's gotta be a way to be able to use this as a notification alert ringtone - not an incoming call ringtone. A sound that comes up when an event in the calendar comes up. This is a really critical function that I REALLY need. The default notification ringtones on the phone are barley audible and are very short. The one I dowloaded would work great if I could get it in there. I can even play it on the phone now, but it just doesn't show up as an option as a notification alert ringtone.

what's the name of your folders?

try calling them -

Media (Master Folder)
Notifications, Ringtones (Sub Folders)

put the tones in the appropriate folders and try it. Android should scan your card and find these folders and sounds.

let us know how it works.

good luck!

It worked. Thank you! I've been feverishly trying to get this to work for days. The ringtone now is fairly long in duration - hopefully that will catch my attention when in certain environments and situations. I'm wondering if I can somehow bump up the volume a bit

This was so great getting it to work. But I ended up sending it out for repair (which I found out later wasn't needed) and got a refurbished one. I did the exact same thing. The ringtone is showing as available in both Phone and Notifaction ringtones - and it is checked. But it doesn't sound when the alerts come up! Another tone that is barely noticeable plays.
I can touch the ringtone I want and it plays, but it won't play when it's supposed to. I REALLY need to get this to work. Please help.
