I'm sure to make and receive calls independently with the Gear S you need a separate sim/number. If you're using a secondary sim attached to your existing phone call plan/number you can only make out going calls from the Gear S and not receive them.

Thanks, you may be right. As shown in the video, when you make a call from the watch, you select the watch option, as opposed to the phone option, but somehow the number of the phone (original number, not the 2nd number) shows up on the recipient's end. As for incoming calls to the watch, these calls are forwarded to the watch from the phone. Can someone confirm my understanding? Thanks.

I just got mine.

Incoming calls to you phone can be forwarded to the Gear. The Gear does have it's own number so if you make calls from the Gear when you're away from your phone, it will use the Gear phone number. Same goes for texting from the Gear while you're away from your phone.

If you're away from your phone, meaning NOT in BT range, it will show the Gear number when you call someone.

Oh well, I was hoping the original (smartphone) number shows up on recipient's end instead. So it seems we will have to give out our 2nd number to friends, family, etc. so they would know the calls come from us.
