How to use wifi and Mobile data at same time in China? (Google Pixel 3 XL)

As known, in order to get wifi to work in China with Google Fi, the connection must be made while using Airplane mode (I'm aware that other more elaborated methods are available). The problem of using wifi in Airplane mode is that then Mobile Data is disabled. Is there any way to use wifi and still be able to Mobile Data while in China?

I couldn't get Android/Google to work in China, unless you know a way round it?

Google is completely blocked in China. Use of VPN is also now outlawed. However, if you use a foreign SIM and roaming, your phone, while on cell data, will be exempted from the great firewall. Some high end hotel also have unblocked internet but those are rare.

From what I see, Google Fi works just fine in China without the need to do what OP described.
