I am trying to follow the below guide but after reaching the stage where I select Reboot to Recovery Mode, the phone just reboots into a screen with a phone and a red exclamation/triangle in it. Pressing up or down doesn't bring up any menu where I can see the wipe cache partition

what am I doing wrong?

Make sure to turn off the phone
Press and hold “Volume Down”
Press and hold “Power” until the phone vibrates, then release it
Once you gain access to “hTC download mode”, release “Volume down”
From the menu, press “Volume Down” repeatedly to navigate to and highlight “reboot to bootloader”
Press “Power” to select the highlighted option
Press “Volume down” to highlight “Boot to Recovery Mode”
Press “Power”
From the Recovery menu, press “Volume down” to highlight “wipe cache partition”
Press “Power” to confirm
After the cache is wiped, make sure “reboot system now” is highlighted and press “Power”

Press and hold the power button, then press volume up(while still holding the power button down).

I mainly started doing it with all my devices on lollipop because that OS was such a joke.

Wiping the cache partition just deletes any stray files from your installation of Android, I believe. It takes a few minutes, so it feels like it is doing something. I think it's intended to clean away junk and keep phone operating smoothly. That's what I've read. Don't think it can hurt anything to do it.

I have tried this multiple times on my Verizon HTC 10 and cannot get it to work. When do you push the volume up button? When you start the phone or when the red triangle comes up?

Wait until the red triangle shows on screen. Hold the power button & press the volume up button then release the volume up button.

Lol dreaded lollipop...I really regretted updating to lollipop... What a disaster!! That's how I discovered the wonders of cahce wipe too.

Wait until the red triangle shows on screen. Hold the power button & press the volume up button then release the volume up button.

Thanks! Worked like a charm. Now lets see if this solves my battery issues with Google Play Services, or whatever it is.
