How to work out where a specific ringtone is used

I have a new LG K10 (since May 2017) with Android 7. I've loaded several of my own ringtones so far for specific reasons which work fine. One of them (not a commonly used one!) is sounding occasionally but with no indication on any app as to what it applies to. For example, when the text ringtone sounds on the messaging app a number appears indicating how many texts are unread so I know where to go. Consequently, when this one plays, I cannot figure out what to open. Is there an easy way to discover where ringtones are actually used?

There is no easy way to do it beyond checking all your apps that do notifications. I would thing that sound or not, the notification bar should contain an icon for every app that gets a notification.

Some apps use the default notification sound set in the phone settings. Some apps use their own sound; some apps let you choose.

Some apps communicate well with the launcher you using and get the "unread" counts displayed; some do not.

Check the developer settings to see if there is some verbose logging you can turn on to see which app triggers the notification.

Thanks, Joe. I was hoping I wouldn't have to go through app by app to check each one's notification options but I guess there isn't a "where used" option ( yet!!) for ring tones
