how will reminders work

This might be a dumb question, but If I tell home to remind me to do something at a certain time, will "it" remind me or will my phone?
The only way I see reminders being beneficial would be if it happened on my phone, but then we are back to the multiple users issue....
thanx

Right now, if I set a remind on one device, all devices tied to my Google Account notify me. Not sure if this is different with Assistant.

Yes, but how does home remind you... Does it wait till it hears a voice and then just starts talking, or will it talk to and empty room, or maybe it waits to you wake it up for a command then tells you there's a reminder?
Ugh, one more week and I'll know

Reminders aren't active on Home yet, but it'll probably work much the same as setting alarms, setting them for specific times based on your phrasing.

I don't understand why reminders are not active yet, and phone calls. I hope this is updated very soon.

Almost like they rushed it. I mean yeah amazon had to build up, but they're already coming way later. You'd think reminders would be a day one type of thing.

I guess I need to read some more... But if I set an alarm via Google Home it will or will not go off on my phone? Same question w timer. I guess I need to add that to my list to try...

Why reminders don't work

Why no reminders?

Because that would involve editing your account content.

Right now, account content editing seems limited to nicknames and the grocery list. Anyone in my family can walk up to the Home and edit either of those two things.

Until they've allowed for multi-account per-user control mediated through voice ID, I don't see broader account-content-modification capability coming into play.

I also have the Google Pixel and noticed that the reminders are different on that as well. With the Google Now launcher, on my previous phone, when I would say remind me at so and so time. Google Now would say ok, you can say change it otherwise your reminder is saved. Now on the Pixel (with assistant) it just says do you want to save this, providing a screen with the reminder information. It is almost as if they took a step back to code Assistant (compared to Google Now), possibly to fix some bugs they ran into with Google Now launcher.
Reminders are coming, we just have to wait since we are early adopters to this :)

My gut tells me Google will have a major update rolling out in March that will really put this on feature parity with Google now on phones.

We're early adopters but Google released this as a finished product. It's not a beta. They need to get their **** together. No reminders is just ridiculous.

Just like every tech developer today. There is only so much that can be done with beta testing in the lab, the true test is when it is out in the real world. With all of today's tech, the consumer is the real beta tester. Google even said on launch that it is currently limited on what it can do, but they have plans to add more content later.

I realize that. I'm just saying, reminders is a day one type of thing. Even the Android Central staff said as much on the podcast.

I can't agree with this, ever since jellybean launched in the summer of 2012 you could do reminders in Google now.

There is too much use of the word "later" and the phrase "not yet" in mountain view.

Yes, and I can set reminders with Google Assistant on my Pixel XL. I think the limitation on Home "currently" is that they decided that they did not want the reminders tied to 1 account for when a G Home is placed in a family setting. Google would be flooded with more complaints about the kids or someone else setting reminders on Primary Owners Google account, much more than the complaints about the service "Coming later" IMO :)

So are you saying you don't think reminders will come until multiple account support comes? Cause if that's the case, I feel like we're going to be waiting a long *** time. If you can't do anything with the one Google account on the device, you lose most of the benefits of having a Google device. Also, you can add anything to a shopping list for that one Google account. How is that any different than adding a reminder? It just doesn't make sense to me.

that is not what I am saying. Refer to my original comment

Google Assistant does not work like the Google Now Launcher. Assistant seems to be coded differently and these are bugs that they must work out. I can see this feature being left out to try an implement multiuser support but I do not think this is an option that will be left out for a long time if that is the case.

Well fine but Google needs to have these glaring omissions patched up by the end of March.

I agree. Really seems to be the case lately. And if Alexa can do reminders and add to calendars, I don't understand why Home didn't do this on launch. That said, I do like using my Home. It's in my kitchen and I like getting my agenda, traffic info, timers, news briefs, and music while cooking. I just hope Home reaches its full potential before Google gets bored!
