How will the Pixel XL compare to the 7 Plus?

Went to my local Verizon store where I got my 7+.

Yesterday I got a replacement of my 7+ due to the hissing noise it had. New one has the same thing albeit quieter. I was going to return it and order the Pixel XL but Verizon will not take it back since it is not the EXACT phone I left the store with even though it was a replacement from Apple themselves. So looks like I am stuck with the phone. I was really anxious to try the Pixel XL.

That process seems broken. I'd get Apple and Verizon on the phone together and have them explain to you how you're going to get your money back for their defective product.

I plan on it tomorrow. Someone is fixing the issue or refunding me. Idk who but someone is. For a phone that cost $1,000 it should have no issues.

Well, basically customization over iOS? I mean, that the common reason people choose Android over iPhone.

But to make thing simple, I will listed down the reason why you should get a Pixel or iPhone.

Reason to get Pixel:-
1) Customization
2) Widgets, lots of lots of widgets
3) Rooting and install custom ROM
4) APK allow to downgrade certain apps that you had just upgraded
5) Deep Google integration and all the Google goodies
6) Unlimited cloud storage for photos upload
7) 3.5 mm headphone jack

Reason to get iPhone 7:-
1) Up to 3 to 4 year major OS update
2) Waterproof
3) 3D Touch
4) Dual Camera
5) Most of the new apps will be available to the app store first
6) Because it's got the Apple logo behind the phone

I would add to the Pixel pro column: Notifications. I find them so much better on Android.

I would add toe the IP7+ pros: Battery life. While this isn't a given, I think it will be very very hard for the Pixel to beat the 7+ in battery, but we will see.

.

Apple major op system updates, but Google is constantly updating every single app. Which I think gets neglected in the thought process for the avg consumer.

This is an excellent point, and one I don't often see brought up. While iOS devices see faster OS updates overall and tend to be supported longer, the Apple built in apps ONLY get updated during those OS updates.

So if Mail , Facetime, iMessage, etc need an update and someone is using iOS 10, that feature won't arrive likely until iOS 11.

On Android, all of Google apps are split out from the OS, and do get updated constantly with new features and fixes (Maps, photos, Gmail, YouTube, etc).

Very interesting - I didn't know this actually myself.

UPDATE: my local Verizon store got in touch with their regional manager. He will get in contact with them in a couple days and let them know if they can indeed take the phone back. If so, I am ordering the Google Pixel XL. I'm tired of the issues plagued with Apple products as of late.

agreed. I used my dad's iphone 7+ for a day before giving it to him. love the battery life and camera and form factor. hate the notifications on ios. Android N is so much better.

Feel free to let them know that Aquila from AC says, "it's the right thing to do".

Where can you order the Pixel XL? I just checked the Google store and it says OOS. I have a OnePlus 3 on order, but just learned about random reboots on it while navigating. That pretty much kills my interest in the OP3, unless I learn something soon that mitigates the issue.

Unfortunately, I'm likely back in the market for a phone and my old GS4 is becoming somewhat erratic, so I either need to replace it or go to the trouble to do a FDR and re-install everything... which I do not want to do since I plan to replace it as soon as I can find something to buy.

Edit: I checked AT&T on the iP7+ and it won't be available until late November or early December.

Not sure where I would order it yet

Curiously, are you have any issues with the iP7+? I keep reading about poor connection/call quality on Verizon & some ATT. Am guessing it is something software related & maybe an update will fix it?

As far as comparing the Pixel & iP7 lines. Would think both devices will hold their own performance wise in a given segment. It will just come down to which operating system has the most value or options for you.

I returned my 7 plus for Verizon last week because my connection was TERRIBLE, every time I was off wi Fi the phone was barely usable. I have a Pixel coming this week!

Good points. Some others I'd add:

Reasons to get iPhone 7:
- Taptic engine and home 'button'. I really like the feel of the pseudo button, and Apple has lots of nice little haptic touches for various actions. Not a big deal, but makes for a more fun experience.
- While not having the flexibility of Android widgets, Apple's approach to widgets (segregated on their own screen to the left of the app screens) means they don't slow things down or leave big blank sections on your screen when refreshing. Depending on what you value you may prefer that approach more.
- Ridiculously large selection of compatible cases, accessories, and other things
- While this point is definitely debatable, on average I find iOS apps tend to be a bit more polished than their Android counterparts. Not always true, but more often in my experience.

Reasons to get Pixel:
- To elaborate on customization, I really like that you can totally replace the launcher with any number of really good alternatives. I probably won't do that as much w/the "pure" Android experience the Pixel will have, but it's still a nice touch.
- Fingerprint reader on back of phone. This is both a pro and a con: it's more convenient when pulling the phone out of your pocket or picking it up to use it, but less convenient when it's laying on a desk or table and you just want to briefly use it w/o picking it up.
- The camera *may* be a reason to get the Pixel if it lives up to that DXOMark rating. I'm optimistic, but won't just assume that.
- To elaborate on the 'deep Google integration' point, I think Google Assistant looks like it'll be more capable than Siri.

I have two lines, w/one being an iPhone 7+, and the other will be the Pixel when I get it end of this week. If you're still wondering a week from now, let me know and I'll post how I think they're stacking up. :)

Iphone has

Best screen
Most accurate colors
Best camera to the picture comparisons that are now coming out with real OIS.
Stereo speakers
More storage so it doesn't waste your data to pull up photos.
More stable OS
Better support
More accessories

So true about accessories. IPhone has the best case. A lot of manufacturers don't even bother to make pixel case.

I had the 6 plus for 10 days and it was the notifications that drew me back to Android along with lower prices. Hopefully the the good phone drop in price.

That doesn't make sense. If you got a warranty replacement device it wouldn't matter. As long as your returning a phone back to us we should be able to do the exchange as long as its no later than 14days. You said you got your replacement device from Apple? Like went into a store or did you call them?

Yes hopefully there will be much more thought out responses than what I said. lol not trying to be down in either device, they have a lot in common and I don't think I can say which one people should like better. Very curious what everyone else thinks.

Why come back and try to give a legitimate response after already showing off the jerk in you?
