I can't stand ads so I bought the $1.99 version of the app lol, but it was doing the same thing until I turned off one option. In the advanced settings, "Play in silent mode" was selected. I previewed the music alarm and it was muffled the same as in the stock app. If I turn that option off, everything was fine.
I don't use crescendo, I hate that feature lol. I turned it off in the stock app too. If I go into my DND settings, "Priority only allows" does indicate alarms, reminders and events, but when I go into that option, alarms is set to on, but grayed out so I can't turn that feature off.
Basically, it seems like it thinks the phone is in silent mode when it really isn't and that's affecting which sound the speaker comes out of for music alarms. McDoogie, thank you for confirming this for me because I was starting to think it was just my phone. For now I'll use Alarm Clock Xtreme and report the issue to HTC.
Thanks everyone for the input.
You were on the right track, but not on the right conclusion.
The cause of the top speaker being mute isn't the "Do Not Disturb" mode at all. "Play in Silent Mode" is NOT the same as "Play in Do Not Disturb Mode".
1) The app "Sleep as Android" has a "Play in Do Not Disturb Mode" switch. This option makes no difference.
2) If you preview the alarm while "Play in Silent Mode" is off and your actual phone volume is on vibrate, no sound will play at all.
It is thanks to you that I figured this much out though. I'm pray to the old gods and the new, to the drowned god and the lord of light, that HTC releases an update to fix this nonsense. We need more people to complain about it though. Tweeit them, chat them up, send them e-mails, something...
