HTC 10 fingerprint sensor stopped working (AT&T)

Last week, my fingerprint sensor stopped working. I contacted HTC twice. They had me go into safe mode which fixed it, but that wasn't permanent of course. They also tried some type of cache fix which did nothing. I then took it upon myself to do a hard reset but that didn't fix it either.

It works for apps that use it flawlessly but for unlocking the screen, it's intermittent at best. It worked 100% of the time since I got the phone in early 2017 until last week. When I say "stopped working," I mean there is no haptic feedback at all. I saw in another thread to uninstall or disable the Sprint app but I'm on AT&T. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Does it work in Safe Mode? Did you uninstall any apps after the first Safe Mode diagnostic?

It worked in safe mode but I don't see how that is a fix. HTC simply said that means some 3rd party app is the cause, to which I replied that all my apps are from the Google Play Store...to which they replied that many apps from there are considered 3rd party apps. Honestly, that seems like a cop out to me. There's gotta be a way HTC can prevent their hardware from just randomly stop functioning.

Also, I did uninstall one app that I rarely used but that had no effect on anything. And, I did not install any new apps that brought this problem on. I checked all my apps that I have and there were no new installs within a few weeks of this problem first starting. It could be that an update to an app caused it I guess. I get notifications to do updates all the time (pretty much daily).

It's fixed now. I now know it was 1 of 5 apps that just got updated and then it worked every time again. I took a screenshot of the Google Play updated apps screen. Thank God I didn't close it before thinking of the screenshot idea. Now, if it ever happens again, I'll have some starting point hopefully.

Hi, do you mind me asking which app you found was causing the problem please? I'm having the same issue and it's doing my head in. It won't even let me reset the scanner: it lets me go as far as pressing reset, but nothing happens
