I'm having what seems to be an age-old HTC issue: My home screen weather widget says "Current Location" for my, well, current location, which is what I have it set to show. The lock screen, blinkfeed screen, and weather app all show "Boston" while set to "Current Location," so detection doesn't seem to be an issue. The widget, however, won't budge. I've tried refresh rates, removing and re-adding, wiping data, etc. Any ideas?

same exact situation - I've tried just about everything I can think of and it just won't refresh...

I had this problem also. What I did was go to settings>apps>all apps search for "weather" and clear the data out on the weather app and weather widget. It seems to have fixed the issue.

This doesn't work for me. And yes, I can set the city manually, but that defeats the point of having it follow me around.

This happens to me too but it seems to just magically work after a few minutes. Annoying.

Mine also keeps having this issue. When I try to refresh it from the app, it says
"unable to contact the location service to update your current location."

I've also cleared the data from the weather app. My wife's One doesnt have this issue

Reboot with fast reboot option off (found in the power settings)

So I woke up this morning to the widget showing "my location". Rebooted and it's fine now. Kind of annoying if you ask me. Need to find a permanent solutionfor this.

Mine seems to lose the name of the location when I restart, then within an hour it seems to get it back. Except overnight it only said "current location." It's odd, especially since every other place the weather shows has the name.

Mine was doing that too but I was out in the desert so I figured that was the issue. Then randomly it fixed itself later. Guess I'll try for the reboot next time.

experiencing this problem too. Have my HTC one a week now and for the first few days everything seemed fine with the weather widget but now I constantly get the error message about not been able to update my location... Could those whose weather apps/widgets are updating their current location without any problems please confirm which location services they have enabled/disabled. Also does anyone know if the weather widget takes its info from the mobile phone masts and therefore if mobile data is switched off but wifi is on, the widget is unable to update correctly???

Did you reboot with fast-boot option ticked off?

I never reboot with fastboot on. However, usually after an hour or so after rebooting, it shows the location, until I reboot again.

yeah tried that ... and after a while problem still happens. I'm new to Android so maybe it's some setting I have missed. Under location settings I have 4 options, "Google's location service", "GPS satellites", "Location & Google search" and "Compass warning". On my phone they are all checked expect "GPS satellites". Is this how it is for others?

This works for me. Someone from xda posted it, but I couldn't find it now.

Turn "update location" in weather on and off, then go to "Google Settings" and turning location off and on, and finally in the Location Service under settings off and on. Restart the phone with fast boot off.

I've had the issue, but for me it seems specific to where I am. While I'm at work in Charlotte, my widget always says "Current Location", but as soon as I leave this specific area, it updates and shows the correct location by city name everywhere else I go in the area, including at home down in Rock Hill. Its like it is only when I'm near the cell tower beside my office that it doesn't want to display the location.

Hi DWS44
Can you please confirm which settings in location services have you checked/unchecked. Also within the weather app itself there is a setting called "My current location", is this checked or unchecked on your phone??

Thanks,

Also, was having the same issue. Just followed these instructions and it seemed to fix the problem...however, we shall see.
