HTC Desire or Motorola Milestone XT720?

Currently I am having to decide between the HTC Desire and the XT720 as my new android phone.
I'm having a bit of trouble deciding between the two, and I want to make sure I get it right, as I am getting the phone on a 2 year contract.

I am currently drawn towards the XT720 due to it's superb camera, however it's OMAP 3440 worries me as in a year or so I feel it will be at a much greater disadvantage compared to the Snapdragon in the Desire (as it is used by many more phones).

I could list many more reasons for either, but can anyone give me particular decision making reasons so I can finalize my choice? :)

Hello,
In my opinion I would get the desire because since it does have the snapdragon 1 ghz processor, it would be the better choice because it is guaranteed to gingerbread *3.0*. Now if you bought the either phone at non contract pricing would be nice since HTC OS going to be releasing the desire HD soon! Now otherwise I would just forget the milestone and just buy the desire!

Can't I just root the XT720 to install gingerbread? (when it comes out)

Also I am getting this for ?20/month on a 18 month contract, on this contract the desire costs ?80 and the XT720 costs ?30, which also leans me towards it.

B-Hazard,
From what I read about Gingerbread is that it requires a Minimum 1 ghz cpu and 512 MB ram. While the Milestone XT720 does have a 550 mhz cpu and 256 MB Ram.. That is why if you are going to buy under contract get the Desire, otherwise if you are dead set on getting the milestone get it. But what are the chances of you actually able to upgrade later on? Also go check out both phones. The Milestone has an awesome camera and comes with Vanilla Android Eclair *2.1* which is a good thing, however, the cpu and ram are what would kill it for me because of Gingerbread's requirements. Maybe Cynogenomod will release a gingerbread port for this phone, they did with froyo for the htc dream/g1.. That is a wait it out. Which ever phone you choose, you have to make yourself happy and dont worry about anyone else's opinion. I would love to buy an htc desire myself because that is basically a nexus one with real buttons on the front instead of the touch sensitive buttons, however, I refuse to spend $ 800 on a phone with the 850 mhz band so I can run it on my carrier!

HTH,
Charlie
