I installed an app called goSMS and it fixed the text and picture problem for me (that is when I get a reliable signal). I had to enter the standard Tmobile APN settings in the app though. Didn't try it without entering the APN info though, so I don't know if it makes any difference. You can as a first step download the app and run it as is and take it from there.

Why would anyone go through all the trouble of trying to use a Verizon phone on another network, when you know it will have drawbacks in network performance.

Hoping for some help!
I have the DNA wold phone and it works great on simple mobile! Getting consistant H/4g and 3g no problem. Internet is fast and cheap but the mms won't work.. I'm having quite the difficult time finding any info about it and would really appreciate any tips! If for some reason it can't work I'll just be switching to t-mobile since their no contract deals are much better now anyway.

Any suggestions? My apn is setup exactly as it was on sgs3 per simple mobile website. One thing I have noticed is that the " APN type" box resets automatically, every time I turn off the phone.

THANKS IN ADVANCE!

Hello peeps,
In case none have noticed Verizons new phones can actually use micro sim cards, which is cool because Verizon can actually reactivate one of the sim cards used if u still have it. but I want to use my DNA on TMobile now. For calls and texts it workd fine without even having to unlock the phone. Now just looking for APN settings to use for MMS and data. Can't find yet, any clues?

My HTC Droid DNA works with Straight Talk in HSPA data which is just fine for me. The download speed averages at 1500 kbps, max I got was 3.3MBps. Upload max 1Mbps. It's a small town, but 4G is available with ATT. I expected better performance. I'm using default straight talk APN right now.

The only issue is lack of MMS. I can't find correct settings. I've been sitting for the whole day, tried zillions of different options, but nothing works. Please help!

What are your APN settings?

first: the fact that this is a VZ branded phone is irrelevant to the perfomance one will receive when using it in GSM mode. The baseband is capable of utilizing all GSM and CDMA frequencies currently in use (and I think there is an LTE RIL as well, but, I am high at the moment,)

The phone will get the full "FauxG" (3.75G) performance on all systems that use the 1900 mhz allocation that the ATT towers and the re-farmed T-Mobile towers do.

Why use a Verizon phone on say Tmobile? Simple economics: Because most people think these phones are locked to VZ on ebay (and I am sure everywhere else) these awesome smartphones that are VZ branded sell for a fraction of what they would if marketed as 'unlocked'.. (Which they are!! SHHHH!!!!)

The problem with the MMS is the APN, the disappearing / weird behavior of that and some related settings has to do with the 'build.props' settings file found in your device's /system/ or /system/bin/ folder... This file was written for VZ CDMA... A few very minor tweaks for us GSM users (like ro.ril.properties.APN-Persistence = true !!!)* and all those little hassles disappear like so much software sorcery... (that was 'joke syntax', dont use on your phone, where there would be no caps and the true would be indicated by the digit '1'.)

MY DNA arrives next week, will post the changes you should make for full GSM functionality without an active VZ data connection at that time. Or, post here (or im me) a copy of this file from your phone (need root and a file manager like root explorer.) (File is a few KB of human readable text) and I can make a list (quite short) of the needed changes (ro.android.properties, ro.ril.properties etc,...)

I have the VZW DNA and used it with vz for about a year. Now I have been on Tmobile for a couple months and so far the phone works fine. Speedtest app shows sligtly slower download/upload speeds on average, but in reality - everyday use, it is not any different than VZW. It does not use 4g but will most likely be in H or 3g.

Everything is pretty much the same except for no signal in certain areas. Its only inside of elevators or on the 4th floor (for some odd reason) at my place of employement. Other than that, just as good as VZW.

*Please note: if you do a factory reset, you best have a verizon sim around in order for the phone to activate. I did a factory reset with the tmo chip inside and the phone could never boot or activate. As soon as it activates you can power off the device and switch to a Tmo sim.

Disclaimer: When I used the VZW sim in this scenario, it was still activated. I am not responsible if you try this with a deactivated sim.

Has anyone gone beyond this point? I want to root my dna but am scared because the VZW sim is deactivated since I no longer use verizon. Would I be able to root/reset the phone and just use the dead VZW sim to activate it?

Hi everyone, I thought that the thread is dead, but to my surprise there are other people still needing help.

Anyway, I used my DNA with Straighttalk for over a year. Tried bazzilion APN settings, but couldn't make MMS (picture messaging) work. The only way to make it work was to download GoSMSPro app or alternative one. I used stock Straightalk APN settings in the end. Speed was ok (let's say 2-4 MB/s max) in big cities (Dallas/Fort Worth), but sucked in my little town. There was no voicemail either.

I switched to T-Mobile last week. Of course MMS doesn't work without GoSMSPro (free app). Signal is worse than in StraighTalk (ATT towers), but Internet speed is faster and no need to deal with their customer service anymore. They are ridiculous. Voicemail works.

Anyone know if my Verizon DNA would do the whole straighttalk crossover using only Verizon towers? I live in a very small village & Verizon is the only service available for a 30 mile radius.. Please help!
