HTC Droid Incredible Issues

Okay, so I just recently bought a Droid Incredible from a buddy, and I absolutely L-O-V-E-D the phone the second I got it.

...And then I started using it--and noticed all the major issues with it!

To begin, the phone is rooted and the "ROM" (I think that's what it should be called, basically I mean the operating system on it) is Cyanogenmod 7. The "Mod Version" listed in my settings says "CyanogenMod-7.0.0-RC4-Inc". This is what has been on the phone since I've gotten it and I've yet to change anything.

So here are the issues I'm having (and of course he never had any of these issues they just magically appeared once I bought it):

1) The phone reloads itself while I'm in the middle of doing something--playing games, surfing the web, whatever--and it usually does it 3 or 4 times back to back in a row.

2) PHONE CALLS DO NOT GO THROUGH!! Nor do my text messages. I can't surf the net without being connected to wifi, I just keep getting "No network found" or something like that. I receive random voicemails with no missed calls in my call log. This, above everything, is the most frustrating. However, all of this is RANDOM timing. Sometimes my phone works great and I have no issues in my house, but then other times I can't do diddly with it. I can make a call 4 times, and then it'll finally go through once the phone just decides to work, I guess. My boyfriend's phone has signal just fine and mine just has signal when it wants to.

3) If I hold my phone completely still and don't move an inch, I can go from 3 green bars to 1 to 3 white bars to no bars and back to green bars again.....and my 3G is only there sometimes, sometimes it goes to 1X or sometimes there's just nothing at all. It doesn't matter what area I'm in, it does this everywhere, and my boyfriend--as he loves to always mention happily--has signal just fine.

I spoke with Verizon and tried several of their tactics to make my phone work, and Verizon finally just gave up because they couldn't figure out what was wrong with it. I know the phone hasn't gotten wet, everything should be fine. Is this a software issue? Is it just an issue with the phone's antenna? I can serf the net just fine if my phone is connected to wifi, and the woman at Verizon mentioned that it's still all the same antenna, so I duno what the heck is wrong with it.

HELP?? I really want to keep this phone, so if I can get it fixed, I'd definitely love to do so.

Cyanogen 7 works perfectly fine on my phone but I think you should have your buddy reload the stock 2.2 software for you so you can see how well the phone works before you might want to go into hacker land and tinker with all the settings and options that a custom rom like cyanogen mod can do.

If your friend wont help you then get tour money back and try to find one on ebay

I agree. either load the default stock OS or get your money back. I wouldn't trade mine for almost anything.

So how do I reload the stock 2.2 Rom? I read in several places that "ROM Manager" was a must, and that's how I updated the current software that's on there. Can I download what was originally on there through Rom Manager, or do I have to download it from my computer and put it onto my SD card and blah blah blah? (I've read a tooooooooooon of crap on this phone because I really wanna get it fixed & keep it...but I still have no clue what I'm doing.)

There is a thread in the Hacking section that explains exactly how to do what your looking to do. There is too much detail to add it here.

Chelsea there is a root expert on this site upstreammiami
contact him and he can help you.

Sounds to me like your "friend" loaded a custom ROM on a rooted phone and didn't know what they were doing, so they decided to sell you the phone so they could get another phone. It's a relatively easy fix but will require a tiny amount of technical skill on your part. I've been running CM7 on my Inc for a while and it has made my "over a year old" phone even more fun to use.

This is the best option for you.

He can fix just about everything by controlling your computer over the net.

Downgrade to unroot. Huge No No! | doug piston

If you have questions, please ask first.

EDIT: In my opinion though, you should have your buddy who sold you the phone put it back to stock for you, and watch as he does it so you can learn how it's done.

i would open up rom manager, and hit download rom. Find virtuous rom and click it. When the boxes come up check mark wipe data and cache and let it do its thing. That is a pretty much stock rom with alot of fixes. I dont think there is a reason to return to stock 2.2 (unroot) try virtuous before you do anything

I think you need to make sure the phone is not overclocked beyond 1113 MHZ. Because CM7 supports speeds way beyond that but DINC is unstable after 1113. Make sure in the Cynogen settings>Performance> you change the max CPU speed to 1113 or below. This will make the phone very stable. Also consider a good kernel such as invisblek.
