please help guys. i want to backup everything an keep the apps and settings before rooting htc evo 4g lte. sorry. first forum of any kind ever for me. really struggling with searching for answers w several questions.. and hope this works and i hear back quickly. thanks to anyone for assistance. also watched craploads of youtube vids to find best way to root it. wow im perplexed and worried ill need a new phone if i break it trying

You might want to post on the rooting forum. Also, you should be a little more specific about what you question is. I'm not one who roots, but there are lots of people around these parts more than willing to help if you can ask your question succinctly.
 
Welcome to the forum! You don't need to backup before rooting, rooting itself isn't going to wipe anything. The order I'd recommend is root, backup with titanium backup, get s off (unlock the bootloader) then flash anything you want to and restore your backup, or don't do that last one if you only want root and no roms. There's quite a few guides for all that over at xda for the evo lte, take a look at those and then I'll be happy to answer any other questions you may have.

Is this true?? From everything I have read I found the complete opposite and the main reason why I haven't rooted.
Can you, or someone, please send a link to instructions on how to root *without* wiping your phone before or as part of the process?

It was when I rooted mine, but that was back on ICS. It's possible that we don't have a root method that'll work without wiping anymore. I'll check tomorrow, would do it now but I'm literally about to fall asleep.
