How are all my android fanatics/family doing!

new to the forum but have visited in the past and never had the guts of actually joining :p

quick question for the community.

im starting and or trying to learn more about my phone since im a electronics geek:cool: which means anything with the word "root" or "EVO" in it i wanna learn anything and everything about it.

i have browsed my market today and saw a app that was closed down or suspended by google (idk which) and its called Z4 root. i temporarily rooted my phone just to test it out and see what all this root talk is and haven't had a chance to try anything on my phone yet.

so my questions are

1. is this a safe application and can it be trusted since its been shut down once before?

2. im new to the root world and what are the risks of doing it on my phone?

3. i also learned that rooting a evo is like jailbreaking a iphone, so how do i put files on my phone to begin my rooting experience. are there such things as making all apps free and changing layouts, themes, color etc of your evo ?

i think that is it for right now and if anyone wants to contact me my gmail is joeyshamon@gmail.com.

love to talk anything Evo or android related.

thanks alot everyone and have a great upcoming holiday! :D

Z4Root doesn't work with the Evo. I do trust Z4root though. I haven't heard of anyone having any issues with Z4Root and it's method is also known.

You can use unrEVOked to root but there's still other things you would have to do to obtain full root and as many here know I'm 100% against using unrEVOked to begin with . If I were you I'd head over to the hacks section and you'll find a sticky with directions of how to root your Evo the right way. Using unrEVOked has more risks than rooting the way of the sticky, but even rooting the way of the stick is not without risks. Doing anything to your phone involving hacking has risks, but if you read and educate yourself and ask questions you should be fine. All of us in the hacks section are very laid back people (except d3x LOL jk) and are always around to help out in any way we can. Rooting is like jailbreaking. With rooting you're basically given 100% access to your phone. You can't make all apps free not should anyone want to. Developers work really hard to make applications (whether it sucks or not lol). But by rooting you can do quite a few tricks. You can also change layouts, themes, remove Sprints garbage, try custom ROMs that often have sick features and all that other good stuff. Head over to the hacks section and browse around. Any questions just post them in the hacks section. hope to see you there!

Z4 root will only give you root until you reboot I believe, but its safe. Google is messing with it because it roots phones and ignorant people can screw there phones up, without knowing anything you know?

Like someone said before about root, its like Spiderman, with great power comes great responsibility. Lol

Check out the evo hacks section and the hacking forums also. Good stuff.

Oh! And jailbreaking is way different. Jailbreaking allows apps not in the appstore to be installed, android already allows this stock. Rooting gives you COMPETE control.

I personally think Z4 should host the App as a sideload...

I haven't used it *Obviously* but I have heard anything bad about it yet...

Like Jerzy Said... Here in the Hack Section there is tons of info... Just Read up as much as you can

The more Knowledge you can absorb the easier the process will be in the future

Alright guys thanks for all the info it's really helpful. I'm better start learning this and start doing my homework . Can people that rooted there phone post some pics please so I see what I'm getting into LOL.

And one more thing. On my last phone the blackberry tour I had a capture it app so I can take screenshots. I don't see none on the market. Any help?

U need to be Root to use the screen capture Apps...

I forget what its called I dont use it anymore... Sorry

You might just have to use an old fashion camera until you're root.

The app d3x is talking about is "Shoot Me", and it does require root. Although... legend has it that some people got it to work without root.

Root is probably the best thing you can do to your phone. You'll never get bored with the phone... If you can imagine it, it can probably be done with a lot of hard work. I know because the people who have posted on this thread have all done it. Actually, we all talk on a daily basis now that i think of it, and we have all be there, are there, or will be there.

Before you go ahead and attempt root, make sure you post on here. To all your research, read through the threads on rooting, especially the one you're going to use, and ask questions after you've read through the whole thing. Don't start rooting, then come and ask a question.

It will benefit you to read thru and post all of your phones info, particularly the HBoot. But... I know that LJ (liquidjesus) has updated his root sticky so you should be covered.

Welcome to the community... remember, the first step in recovery is admitting you have an addiction. Right Jerzy! :P

In the How-To root sticky there is also a video so you can see what your getting into before you attempt.
