HTC glass sucks!!!!

Now, the email i got directly from HTC says:

I wish people would get it straight, NOT GORILLA GLASS!

And the link I posted, also from HTC, says it is.. but whatever.

All I want to know is - if you keep your T-bolt in your pocket like I do when on the move, will the glass get scratched up.

My og droid and droid x never any skin protector

Let's see some pics ?

While HTC's glass isn't officially "Gorilla Glass", it's pretty damn durable. Never bothered with screen protectors for my Eris, Inc, or now the TBolt, and they go in and outta my pocket all the time. The screens are flawless w/ no micro scratches or anything.

I will post them in just a minute. Insurance is shipping me a brand new phone with all accessories including a new 32gb memory card! I guess it was a blessing in disguise.

So it looks like the Thunderbolt DOES have Gorilla Glass

Basic physics at work. Impulse is the change in momentum with respect to time. Anytime you drop something and it hits the ground the time is very short meaning unless the momentum is small the impulse will be high. Since velocity will be the same for any phone dropped from hand height it's up to the mass of the phone. It's easy to see how when it's mass times velocity over time how increase in mass makes an exponential increase in impulse.
This phone is heavy. Real heavy. I'm scared to death with my extended battery. I really hope a case for it comes out soon.

Gorilla glass is a trademarked name for a specific product. What the the Thunderbolt has mabe be like Gorilla glass, it is NOT Gorilla glass. And if you search "Opaque Aluminum-Silicone Base", the only thing that pops up on google over and over and over is the answer to one email about the Incredible "The screen display is actually an Opaque Aluminum-Silicone Base. It is called Gorilla Glass, which is impervious to the very real threats of key scratching and localized pressure."

Now, the email i got directly from HTC says:

I wish people would get it straight, NOT GORILLA GLASS!

While this is good for arguments sake. The facts do not back it up.

Now I wonder if knowing that it's real branded Gorilla Glass will make people perceive the screen as being tougher. "Oh I love my Gorilla Glass screen, it's indestructable!" We already know that being ignorant that their screen was Gorilla Glass all along made them think it was inferior.

It's funny that people care for brand rather than function...

That is an excellent point. Personally, I don't care about the brand but the functionality. I am just getting tired of reading the same arguments when the facts obviously state the opposite. It's like watching Fox News.

Owens Corning has a specific patented formula at a chemical level. They did invent the aluminum silicate formula. While other aluminum silicate formulas exist because of minor chemistry changes, I think Apples iphone does this best. I would use a screen protector on anything not Motor/Apple. I am so OK with that. Heck, Phil's scratched. Nothing wrong with protection. The debate about gorilla glass is moot. I would be fine with either and a screen protector if not Owens or Apples.

They patented "Gorilla Glass" 40+ years ago. Patents last 20 years.

As someone who is beyond anal with my stuff I can assure you that screens will scratch. The slightest bit of debris on your cleaning cloth WILL scratch your display. If you dare wear earrings you WILL scratch your screen. I think when companies refer to scratches, they're talking about visible scratches when the screen in on, not the hair line scratches you'll find at the perfect angle when the display is off. I literally sit and inspect my display from every possible angle in different lighting conditions to make sure the device doesn't have any scratches before applying my screen protectors. I can not understand why people even take a chance without a screen protector, then come to forums to complain when they find a scratch. For the $10/$20 it cost for a screen protector, it should be the first thing you do before powering your new device on for the first time. As for shattering, they WILL shatter in most instances when dropped onto a corner, this is why a case and insurance should be applied right after the screen protector. Gorilla glass is like a bullet proof vest, its nice to know your equipped with it but certainly wanna avoid putting it to the test.

Was in contact with Lisa Burns of Corning media relations. She states in fact (as others have in this thread), the Thunderbolt does use Gorilla Glass.

Now that being said, this will not protect you from sand, and sand like particles. Sand in the pocket or on the cloth you wipe your phone with will rip right through it. Keep that in mind, and take necessary precautions.

Again, they invented it. I am not sure how long patents last, but I think it is less than 20. I assume they have improved their formula through the years and re patent the "improved" version. I know the term "gorilla glass" is under patent, and I am willing to bet their current formula is too.

Seeing the TBolt listed on the Gorilla Glass product page mean nothing to me since the Incredible is also listed and my fiancee already has a few scratches from her earrings. But again, why would anyone be comforted by this seeing as how were discussing it because of a busted display in the first place?
