I see lots of threads about integrating the Incredible into a car stereo, but what about making it my head unit? Does anyone make a setup that I can just plug my phone into that allows for the phone itself to be my stereo?

I know I would need some kind of independent amp for the speakers, but does anyone make this type of setup?

I don't need a want/new headunit, and would be just fine using my phone directly.

Thanks,
Mark

I would like this too!

I've got 8GB flash on my incredible and a couple of hundred songs. Would love to be able to play them through the car speakers :)

my car has an aux port. i just got a 3ft cable with a 3.5mm headphone jack on each side. works great with my harmon kardon stereo system

Yep, if you have a line-in jack on your car, all you need to do is connect it to your phone and it functions like at ipod, playing the music through your stereo system. Not sure what to do with older cars that don't have the jack.

Also, you can stream music from your droid to your stereo without the line in function, if you car system supports blue tooth.

@jason
how would you stream with blue tooth. my car supports it and i use it for voice calls but can't figure out how to send the music audio to the car speakers

Another option is to use something like I have, the Jabra Cruiser. It clips on the visor and acts as a Bluetooth speakerphone, but it will also take the music from my phone via Bluetooth and transmit to auto radio via the Cruisers built in FM transmitter.

I know what you're asking about OP, but as of yet I haven't seen any solution for that. It would almost definitely have to be a custom workup for your car. Frankly, I think it'd be better to have a dedicated tablet installed that would do that job. You'd have to install an amp into the car if you don't have one already, and wire it up to that. Should be pretty straightforward, but the challenge would be how to mount the tablet or phone and have it look good. Think fiberglass.

There is another solution. I work at an auto parts store, won't say which so it doesn't sound like I'm just pushing for my company. But, on my cell phone cases display we have a piece that has headphone jack that plugs into phone. Other end of it is fm transmitter that's uses a fm station on stereo to transmit phone signal to and through stereo.

You could install an amp and have it run your speakers and just plug into your amp. you can run rca jacks from your amp to a head phone jack and do it that way. I used to do that with a portable cd playe back in the day. Your phone would control the sound. I beleive they make a plug that goes from headphone to rca.

JBL makes a processor called the MS-8 and let me say its an awesome piece of equipment. Has both speaker level inputs and rca inputs plus amplification built in to its 8 channels. Can be used for a full custom setup or an awesome way to clean up a stock stereo. I suppose if you really wanted to you could wire it in via speaker level in and have a cable running from the aux input to the 3.5mm jack in your dinc and be able to switch from one to the other fairly easily.

They make those plugs, or tve HTC video out cable would work too, and could be wired to charge at the same time!

For older cars, I went the old CD player way and got the cassette to headphone jack hookup. I realize some of you young whippersnappers may not know what a cassette is, but ask your grandparents about the good ol days.

Works well even for speakerphone usage.

This is what I do on my boat

Every factory radio should have a cd changer plug in the back. You can get an adapter the simply draws an rca lead off of that plug. That works much better than a cassette adapter if you don't have an aux jack in front.
