HTC Mail brings phone to a crawl.

Hi,

I am using HTC Mail as client for my Verizon POP email (1 account) and for my Gmail account.

I have disabled the Gmail client from downloading/polling for mail.

I use Seepu in the notification area, and the "cpu usage meter" has been getting maxed out pretty consistently.

The phone slows down to a crawl with 10-15 sec lag, I have narrowed it down to HTC Mail, or at least when I go into Manage Applications and do a force close on HTC Mail, the phone returns to normal.

I do not get a lot of email traffic, but I would still like to have the functionality to send/receive them, and I have polling down to 20 mins.

Any ideas/suggestions?

Thanks,
Eye

i dont know much about that app since i use gmail only. but i've seen there are other email apps like K9 which people have said works well. might be worth it to give that a shot?

I had the same problem. I am convinced it is a sync problem with the stock email program. It slowed my phone dramatically. Verizon tech support was useless, tried to tell me I had a defective phone & they would send me a new one. They sent me a new one alright, but it was a Droid X instead of Incredible 2 & they charged me for it. Took me 3 weeks to straighten out the $253 in charges, so don't call tech support. I solved the problem by deleting the accounts I set up in the stock email program. I now use gmail with no problems at all. I set up my other pop 3 accounts (hotmail & roadrunner) to be fetched by gmail, so all mail comes through one source. Another advantage to gmail is that it is a "push" service, so mail to your gmail address is delivered instantly. The "fetched" accounts are polled by gmail at various intervals depending on volume of mail, etc.

I have also heard that 3rd party programs like k-9 will solve problem as well. Hope this helps.

I've added my Verizon POP accounts to my gmail and I am using gmail app without any issue.

I am perplexed why HTC Mail basically renders the phone useless, once I removed the accounts from Mail it was fine. You would think the vendors app would function properly. It maybe the sync function as you stated.

Thanks all,
Eye
