I'm not a tekkie, I'm having this low memory happen on my phone. I installed my gmail account and an exchange account. Everyone seems to be saying gmail is not the problem but that is what I've installed as well as my work exchange account. What do I need to do so this stops happening, I'm sick of doing the resets. How do you know if your setting up a POP account or IMAP account? Please help, now I know what my parents felt like in 1985 watching the VCR continually blink. (Those of you 35 and older know exactly what I'm talking about)

I've reset 3 times so far and always error message came back. they're sending me a new phone, but after reading all these posts I don't think it matters. How do I add a gmail account by not using HTC mail, K-9?

When you reset your phone, are you you doing a factory reset? And what are your mail settings? After my reset I am using the following settings.

Temporary Attachment storage = SD card
Mail size limit =25kb
Download options = 3 days
Download frequency = 15 minutes

After 45 days my memory issues have not returned. And I hover around 20-30MB approx.

To give you a idea here's my email accounts
One Google
One Exchange
One Hotmail
One Yahoo
One Cox

Temporary Attachment storage = SD card, etc

I don't know, and how do I set limits, etc. Do I need to set up a K-9 account. What is the culprit, my Gmail or exchange account. I just want to set this up so I don't have to do any more resets when I get the new phone. Sometimes it freezes my phone up so bad that it doesn't load to home screen, it cycles throught Verizon and HTC brilliant.

Is it possible to use the HTC mail app without having this issue?

I dont think in the 1st month of use with one email account did it go over 3 megs for storage.

Google is not the issue. All of your other accounts MAY be the problem. here is how to set the limits on your email accounts.

Open the email account
Tap the menu button
Tap the "More" icon
Tap the "Settings" icon
Tap the "General settings"
Tap the Temporary attachment storage" set to SD card
back out one screen
Tap the "Send and Receive"
set " Mail size limit" I have mine set to 23KB
set "Download Frequency" - mine is every 15 minutes
And this is the most IMPORTANT setting "Download options" you can set this for "By days" or "By number of emails"
I have mine set for 3 days. It seems that the more email you download, the more of a issue you have with the "Low memory" problem... So I would recommend going as low as you can stand, One member has set for only one day for example.

Every email account has similar settings.

These are the setting I set AFTER I completed a Factory Reset. If you are cycling between the HTC and Verizon screens, I think you will need to do a factory reset too.

My Wife's Dinc and mine have been problem free, after I set our phones to the above settings.

Good luck, and let us know how it goes.

I did all that and memory incresed up to 125mb, and voila, I've received the loe memory message. I have removed my exchange email account but kept the Gmail account and memory is staying at 116mb and low memory error message remains. Extremely frustrating, I don't know what to do. Oh I also downloaded Handcent for SMS hoping that would help. Do I need to delete my Gmail account from HTC mail? Very very frustrated, please help !!

i believe tusconchuck's instructions are the only way to have htc mail coexist peacefully with your phone. of course the alternative i've been preaching for a couple of months now is to just dump htc mail entirely (after full factory reset) and go full tilt with k9. i've got 7 email accounts managed through k9 without having to set mail size limits. you will not have the problem reoccur after that

For some reason I can't get my the K9 account to work with my exchange account. Should I use K9 for my Gmail account as well. How do I get my contacts into my phine without having Gmail through HTC Mail to download them? Thanks for all the help, and any suggestions with K9 for Exchange? They sent me another phone, I'm going to use it but hopefully without HTC mail

I had to do a factory reset, AGAIN!! I can't get K-9 to work with my Exchange Microsoft outlook, anybody have a suggestion ?

well i don't use exchange for anything so i can't directly help you with that, but i did find this info from the k9 site regarding setting up ms exchange:

K9MailAndExchange - k9mail - Advice on how to configure K-9 Mail to work with Exchange - Project Hosting on Google Code

as for gmail, that's my main account. all of my other email accounts that i use with k9 are managed by k9. the integrated inbox makes it very simple to juggle multiple addresses, but i still like to keep my gmail separate

JR, I wood set up your exchange account separately, and as Jonze said K9 for everything else, not Google? Have you thought of just setting up gmail to retreive all of your mail, cept for your exchange account. If I need to reset my phone that's the option I'm looking at,

Thanks everybody, especially you Tuscon, since I reset and set my HTC mail limits immediately, memory does not accumulate.

JR, I'm glad you have it working out. We are lucky that there are so many helpful people here on A.C. :)
