HTC offers $100 trade-in for HTC One purchases

Originally, the date to buy and activate the One to get the $100 was March 31. My Sprint upgrade starts April 1. I was going to need Sprint to move up my date to get the $100 but now that the date was moved to April, I'm in the clear.
Basically, it's a sign that HTC wanted to have the One out by mid March, not late March, early April.

I still think the pre-register date is the launch date. After that date it wont be pre anymore meaning the product is released. That's my hopes an I'm sticking to it :p

no information if this deal is US only?

Well for sure I won't be sending them my One X but for older phones this might be a sweet deal :)

According to the HTC one upgrade T&C section 7.2, the phone traded in must be active at the time of purchase and must have proof of purchase."Without a valid Proof of Purchase, you will not be paid the promotional trade-up amount. " I don't want to trade in my EVO 4G but I'll give them my old Blackberry Curve. Is there any way for HTC to see if it was activated prior to purchase of the One? Could do an ESN swap a day in advance but don't they charge an activation fee for that nowadays?

So do I need the proof of purchase of my old phone to get the visa card back? cause that is long gone haha

Or the old phone needs to be activated before purchase of the ONE, an I need the proof of purchase of the ONE to send in?

You need proof of purchase for the HTC One. Which can be an invoice with a valid IMEI or a UPC with a valid IMEI. So do you have the box still?

I had not noticed the line stating the traded in phone must be "active" at the time of purchase. (I had noticed it "must power up") Geez. And how are you going to prove that? A printout of the account screen showing your ESN-swapped phone as active?

It does say they will allow the UPC/MEI number as a valid proof of purchase. Though I don't have the original box (or purchase receipt) for the old LG phone I would like to give them either

From the terms page: HTC One? Upgrade Promotion Terms of Use. | HTC Trade Up Program
In order to participate in the HTC One Upgrade Program you must have an eligible used device as defined by the on-line Tool. You can identify if the used device is eligible by utilizing the drop down menus to pick the make, model, and carrier for the used device. If you cannot find the make or model and believe this is in error, you can contact the program administrator at Clover Wireless. The Program is only valid within the United States. You must be a minimum of 18 years of age to participate. The Program is not valid on stolen property. There is a maximum of one (1) trade-in utilizing HTC One Upgrade promotion per registrant. A valid proof of purchase is a) an original invoice with the IMEI number printed on it or b) a copy of the UPC code with the IMEI code printed on it. A copy of a UPC code is only permitted once as a valid Proof of Purchases. Clover Wireless has the right to reject any trade-ins for promotional trade-in submissions where 1) the used device is submitted by anyone other than the user of the used device and 2) when the used device was not active at the time of the new device purchase and 3) the trade-in voucher was not agreed to by you and 4) there is an invalid proof of purchase or 5) we believe there to be fraudulent intentions. Without a valid Proof of Purchase, you will not be paid the promotional trade-up amount.

Used Devices that are sent in that do not qualify either because a) the model of used Device is not eligible or b) the Device is not in the condition stated or c) does not have a qualifying Proof of Purchase will not be eligible for Program and will be recycled without any payment and any OEM incentives are forfeited. After your mail-in your used Device, you cannot get it back, even if you return the merchandise you purchased

2) when the used device was not active at the time of the new device purchase

Missed that one. Some of these terms seem kind of iffy. And I love how they tell you if you don't meet these terms they will keep your phone and give you nothing. Where does the burden of proof lay for these requirements if they don't specify how you prove some of these conditions?

I don't see how they can check to see if it was active at the time of purchase.
I would say we are good to go as long as the device is on the list and in working condition.

This is a ripoff unless you have an older device. My note 2 would easily get $450-500 on the market.

What list are you guys talking about? I signed up for it on the Canadian site and was never given a drop down option to choose what device I am trading in.

One guy few posts up, LG phone he wanted to give... It has to be an HTC device I believe..

And to above, when you signed up, you got an email that told you to goto www.htctradeup.com/htcone and enter the confirmation code in the same email.... That's when you get the drop down to check the device eligibility list

No, the trade in can be one of hundreds. My blackberry curve will get $100 as well as my EVO 4G getting the same amount. At least I'll keep the EVO as a backup or a toy for the kids.

I went back and reread all the terms. The proof of purchase and current activation apply to the HTC One and not the trade in device. So you have to provide proof you purchased the One and keep it active for 60 days at least.
The trade in device just needs to be in working order and not stolen. However, once you send it in you do risk not getting the quoted value and you can not get it back.

I'm gonna send in my HTC Arrive. As long as it is working, and the screen isn't damaged, you'll get a minimum of $100.

I preregistered last month on HTC's site but do you have to order(preorder) through HTC's site to get the $100 or can I just pick the phone up at my local sprint store and still claim the rebate?

So is anyone planning to activate their old old phone right before buying the One in order for it to be eligible (by the rules)? I'm not sure how they would know so I'm tempted to not even bother with that.

Thats not how I am reading it. It sounds like the traded in device must be active when you get the HTC One:

Clover Wireless has the right to reject any trade-ins for promotional trade-in submissions where 1) the used device is submitted by anyone other than the user of the used device and 2) when the used device was not active at the time of the new device purchase and 3) the trade-in voucher was not agreed to by you and 4) there is an invalid proof of purchase ... but on second reading of that, it sounds like all of those must be true since they use the word and between all of them as opposed to or...?
