Re: HTC One aluminum body scratch test

There's relevance in discussing the differences between the HTC One and Galaxy S4, but that doesn't mean it belongs in every thread (or, for that matter, that every user in such a thread is required to participate in the debate if it is present). There's gotta be a middle ground where threads in the One/S4 forums have breathing room, but appropriate discussion about both devices is still encouraged by everyone.

Let's all find that middle ground, yeah? :)

I'll be picking up a One sometime soon, and I hadn't really considered the metal scratching until now. I think I'm more concerned about the One's metal parts scratching than I have been about the Nexus 4's glass front and back scratching or cracking.

Edit: I had this post sitting in the 'compose' window for a while. What Jerry said. ^

What do u guys think??

I think that guy has more cohones than I do. ;-)

As others have said though, I'm more concerned about drops on corners. My one actually has slipped through my fingers once already, fortunately it was on the carpet at the office from maybe 4 feet high... no visible damage.

Then discuss the One in threads about the One, and play your games in the other 100 threads full of people like yourself who are determined to turn these forums into utter crap. Or start a thread about the plastic replaceable back on the S4 if you like, but leave these people alone for a while.

Whatever it's your forum right? But seriously people have thin skins and take themselves and cell phones far too seriously.

No different on the S4 forums, and you seem to take what people think of the S4 seriously,it's seems like a double standard here.

Re: HTC One aluminum body scratch test

I found a simple compromise I think--like most, I didn't want to always have a case on my beautiful One, so I've gone for now with just a skin on the back. Still shows off the goods, keeps it thin/light, and protects it for the most part. I've got a cheap case I can pop on if travelling or heading into a riskier environment.

I've decided just to carry insurance on my phone as my compromise. I'm really not worried about scratches, I'm more worried about serious damage from a fall. Insurance will take care of that. Its more expensive than a case but more satisfying too.

Agreed, that's sorta my mindset as well. The one other added bonus to the thin skin I put on the back is a bit more grip Ultimately, it looks pretty great.

Re: HTC One aluminum body scratch test

Believe it or not, this is an inexpensive skin from XtremeGuard. I got it for like $3.80 shipped. They have a decent sale on their website--but sometimes you can find cheaper via their ebay store. The shield itself seems pretty similar to some of the "high end" ones I've had before--most of their savings seems to come from not bothering with fancy packaging, etc.

Which is exactly why I don't understand you and a couple other users need to try and turn every thread into a S4 vs. One discussion. Its a phone, go discuss your phone in its section. I don't want to read about your phone, I want to read about mine.

I think the OP did that when he said "take that aluminum haters." Who do you think he was talking to but Samsung owners? That said, this whole religious war aspect to the new phones is absurd. Owners of both phones are acting like 5-year olds.

Presenting evidence to refute an argument and referencing that argument (what the op did) and trolling to start an argument with a post that isn't relevant to the thread (like the post my comment was directed at) are two very different things. One is hey, you guys said aluminum would scratch, look at this! The other is saying "This phone that this thread and section isn't about is better because of xyz!"

Yeah. "My side of the argument is NEVER trolling, but the other guy's is ALWAYS trolling." The OP could have simply reported the results of the test, without the "Nyah, nyah, nyah, told you so!" language.

The entire "my phone is better, you're wrong, no you're wrong" thing is infantile.

I have this xtremeguard protector on the front and back of mine also. Very good E Bay price of about $3.95 shipped. It was was a "wet" application, but seems to be holding up well so far.

Re: HTC One aluminum body scratch test

I have owned the black version since last Thursday and I can definitely vouch that the back scratches easy.
I have previously owned all the HTC EVOs in order of the years that came out and I didn't use a cover for any of them and the wear and tear on them was very minimum. I carry them naked in my pockets and dock them in my car.
After 4 days I can clearly already see wear & tear on the back of my HTC One. I have on set it on my wood surface desk at work, wood surface bar and arm rest dock in my car. The scratches are not noticeable from a distance but you can see them up close at an angle exposing it to the light. Similar to what scratches look like on a waxed car having to look up close to see them. At first I thought they were just dried watermarks but they are indeed scratches.

To my luck a inexperienced high school kid at Sprint activated my phone wrong so I was getting data call failure messages the 1st 48hrs. Took it back to Sprint and the lazy reps tried to blame it on the network towers being upgraded in the area which was false. Later took the phone to a different Sprint store where the reps actually fixed the problem but tomorrow I am going to take the phone back and use that reason to demand a replacement especially since I am am still in the 14 day refund grace period. I hate covers but I may have to get one for this phone.

So again the black version's back scratches easy but just sitting it on typical surfaces but because of the black finish, the scratches are only noticeable if you look up close.
After 4 days my back looking up close looks like I had the phone for a few months
