Currently I have a GS4, but am really tempted to switch to the One. The only issue that worries me is the black menu bar on some apps. Are apps being updated and fixing this issue? I really want to make the switch because I love the speakers and LCD display.

I have not encountered the black menu bar on apps, maybe because I haven't had the phone for very long? But I have been downloading a lot of apps haha. The speakers and sound quality are very nice and the "true colors" that the LCD displays is more of my liking as well. It's a very good phone! My friend has a GS4 and we noticed a little lag when using his phone, not sure if that was just his phone or something common for the GS4. This is all from a guy who had a iPhone 4S so I'm no expert hahaha.

I didn't know the the 3 Dot Menu is temporary, is it?

It's a PITA but you get use to it.

If and when the app gets updated it is possible to lose the black bar

It really don't bother me much. Sure no bar is better but it doesn't bug me much

I have 49 apps installed on my phone. Only 3 of them have the black menu bar. This is a fantastic phone and it would be a pity not to buy it for that reason.

Unfortunately, some commonly used apps are the worst offenders, ie Facebook and Amazon. While I ding them in reviews for not following Google design standards, the bar doesn't bother me that much. Still, I will continue to write developers about this. If small developers can get it right, surely Facebook can manage the same.

It's one of the single most annoying issues with this phone. Most of the popular apps have it like Facebook, angry birds, handcent etc.

Honestly I don't notice it too much. It's definitely not ideal, but it's something you can get used to. It's certainly not something that should be a deal breaker, at least in my opinion.

Made the switch today and am so happy I did. The screen is amazing and the only app so far I've encountered with a black bar is Facebook. Thanks for the comments!

I can't use Go Launcher, well I can, if I want that black bar - which just bugs the $h!t outta me. I've not updated my Facebook, for this reason.
I know I shouldn't let it bug me, but it does. So for now I use Apex Pro....

Some, not most. Don't make it seem worse than it is because this is a serious concern for the OP.

Hello, I couldn't decide between Samsung galaxy s4 and HTC One and it was driving me nuts!:-\ When I heard about the menu bar problem, I thought I would get the Samsung galaxy s4, because I love the screen size of it, plus the menu bar would annoy me. But then, I heard about amoled burn-in, and that would annoy me too. So I was back to square one. I can't decide what would annoy me more and it's driving me nuts again. So I would like to ask if the following apps are updated for the HTC One so the menu bar won't show.
MX Player
BS Player
VLC
Twitter
Real Racing 3
Asphalt 7
Iron Man 3
Riptide 2
Subway Surfers
Temple Run 2
Utorrent
Also, is the HTC One update available in :
The UAE
Canada
If anyone answers, Thank you!

I don't know about the apps but as soon as the software is updated to 4.2.2 or higher you won't have to worry about the menu bar.
