Hi guys,
so I've heard the at&t HTC One comes with a lot of at&t bloatware. Can these be deleted or is it a permanent feature? :/ Thanks!

Bloat ware can be disabled so that it cannot be seen, but it will still take up storage on the device. To fully delete it, the phone would have to be rooted and a mod or Rom that allows them to deleted would have to be flashed.

As a 5 year iPhone user here is my other major issue with Android. The various carriers lard these phones up with obscene amounts of crap bloatware THAT WE CANNOT REMOVE. We should not be forced to root our phones in order to remove 10 AT&T crap apps that we will never use. It's funny that Android give you a lot more control over your phone, except in this case. Go figure.

I understand your annoyance and agree with it, however we have to keep in mind that every OS has their downsides. The same can be said about iphone, I hate how if I dont like the default apps I'm stuck with them, also you cant get rid of them. At least we can disable these apps and not have to deal with it, if they still annoy you so much..root.

I wish that was true. Unfortunately a lot of the apps CANNOT be disabled...Flickr, etc

Thats really odd, on android every app can be disabled even system apps (of course that would damage your phone but you shouldn't be doing these things if you dont know what you're doing), I will get my one on monday so I can't confirm until then.

Neat thing about the One is its super easy to unlock the boot loader and flash a new ROM that doesn't have carrier bloat. I have been running Jelly Bean 4.2.2 for a few weeks now, :) some come with Sense some don't, the choice is yours. My phone has been rock solid, and because I kept Sense, I still have Beats Audio and all the camera features.

It can be disabled which solves the problem of it bothering your experience with Android or Sense. I spent 10 minutes disabling at&t bloat. I do use a couple at&t apps though so its not all terrible.

I'm coming from an iphone too and this haven't been a issue at all. Like it have been said before you can disable them and won't even notice they are there.

There are ways of experiencing Android without having to deal with bloatware or rooting your phone.

That explains everything.

... composed by my imaginary construct for you.

Well. In a way he's right. Not all phones are full of bloatware. The HTC One has the dev edition and unlocked version which don't have carrier logos manifesting within it.

My HTC ONE X was just returned from HTC with an OS where the bootloader is unlockable, and therefore unrootable. It appears that HTC ONE X OS's installed since about 04/13 have this same configuration and cannot be mod'd without significant changes via USB connection/ cmd prompt from your PC. I was able to root my S2 easily enough but have given up on the HTC ONE X. I have had so much trouble with AT&T recently (after giving them tens of thousands of dollars over the years) that as soon as the last member of my family plan's contract expires we are leaving en-masse, probably to T-Mobile.

This is not an "Android" problem. This is a carrier issue. You have the option to not buy a carrier branded phone or choose a different carrier. The "openness" of Android allows for things like this to occur, but that openness is what makes Android so great. Don't put a blemish on the Android platform because of this. Google doesn't want carriers doing crap like this. But there's also nothing they can do to stop it.

The ONE actually has less bloatware than any carrier android I've used. It's the only carrier device I've used that performs just as smooth out of the box as it does rooted with a custom ROM.

When I decided to buy this phone that option didn't exist. I had an iPhone on AT&T and guess what, no bloatware or branding. I still like my phone and Android but the bloatware and lack of timely updates really sucks. I do wonder if I'll have 4.2.2 after 4.3 rolls out.

And there's another carrier issue for you. 4.2.2 is available for the HTC One (international). The carriers have it. They are fudging with it before they release it to the masses.
