HTC One Camera Pictures: Show us what you got :D

Re: HTC One Camera Pictures : Show us what you got :D

Maybe I'm just not using it right, but most of my nighttime pics are quite noisy. The pics I've taken are in my apartment in dim/medium lighting. I have the camera set to Scene-Normal mode, without Flash. Am I doing something wrong?

Btw, some of the pics in this thread are :-o awesome

Re: HTC One Camera Pictures : Show us what you got :D

All I can say is that I look at these and I laugh at my iPhone 4 - It's amazing how camera progression goes. Reassuring, as I was worried that the Ultrapixel stuff was more of a flop than any. Definitely not a deterrent for a purchase now.

Re: HTC One Camera Pictures : Show us what you got :D

I will admit that some photos are nice but its very hard to conclude that the Camera is a step up from the EVO 4G LTE

I think you have a point here. After the Sense 5 software has been applied to the EVO 4G LTE we'll know a little more.

But I do think the overall HTC One photography experience is a better one:
  • The HTC One has provided better photos than my EVO 4G LTE.
  • The EVO provides the ability to magnify/zoom the image somewhat more.
  • (Oddly) Magnifying a photo taken on the One reveals a much cleaner image than the EVO (lens and chromatic aberrations).
  • In normal scene mode, The One's dynamic range seems more capable than the EVO.

Before the HTC One, I was happy with my EVO 4G LTE. Now with the HTC One in hand, I do not miss photography on the older phone.

You may try to use the timer, say 2 seconds to avoid any moving while taking the shots and then you can check how it works.

To all the "One" owners have yall tried to text anyone pics taken with the "One"?
Since people are dubbing this a great social media phone in regards to viewing pics on the phone
is there further quality loss in regards to the pics being compressed when sending them to others via text?

No worse than any other phone. If you start with a bigger file size (like from a 13 MP camera) it is going to have to go through more compression than the smaller photo taken on the One. More compression means more chance of lost quality and more artifacts.

I really like this camera. And with Snapseed on this nice big screen, I'm in heaven.

Are any of you guys fiddling with the ISO, exposure and other settings when taking pics? The pics look great, and I just want to know if you're using the default settings or something else :)

Thanks

I use the default settings. Little bit of fiddling in Snapseed to get the color and contrast how I like it.

You may find that setting the ISO lower and dialing in some negative exposure helps to reduce noise and brightness resulting in better and more natural looking photos in some cases.

I love scotch. Scotch scotch scotch. Here it goes down. Down to my belly.

Picked mine up on Saturday, these are some quick shots I've snapped around the village... I'm particularly fond of the Macro mode.

Re: HTC One Camera Pictures : Show us what you got :D

I've posted this at phandroid as well, so I wanted you guys take on this:

I've been on here reading a lot of posts and they've been helping me a lot. So, much so, that last weekend I made the impulse to upgrade my phone and get the HTC One from an old school Epic 4G (and I was preparing myself to get the photon q lol). I was planning on just testing it for two weeks and deciding if I wanted to return it for a lack of a keyboard, but it looks like this thing is growing on me, especially the camera, the ZOE feature, and general quickness of the phone.

With that said, I've been using the camera a lot, taking bunches of pictures, creating zoes, creating highlights, etc. and I've been enjoying the experience. I love the photos you guys have been posting as well! Good stuff! The thing I noticed, though, that even though the phone is touted to work well in low light situations, I still sometimes take pictures that come out too dark in those situations. Also, they come out blurry sometimes, even with the burst shot to get the best shot mode.

So, I wanted to reach out to the community and see if there are any general camera settings, when you get to certain environments and situations, that are your go-to setting to get the most out of your camera and create the best image possible? I.E. HDR for outdoor shots, Macro for close up, Normal for day to day, etc. And also, any general use cases for ZOE that you've grown accustomed to up to this point. I.E. Do you use them strictly for highlights? Do you make a lot of Action Shots? Do you use them to find the best shots? etc.

I know this is a long post, but I'm kind of a talker and I wanted to let it all out, since I've been reading so much on here. Thanks in advance for the help!

My wife's little garden, with back light from the security light. One pic without flash (clipped from a Zoe), and one pic with flash.
