Re: HTC One Camera Pictures : Show us what you got :D

...Care to provide some tips on getting such good results?

And I visited the Pocket Lint site - first of all, the site is unuseable in chrome. Is this supposed to be a tech site? Had to dig out fire fox to even navigate the site.
......... There were some decent comments about dynamic range and menu setup which I agree with. A rating of 2.5 out of 5 is ridiculous.

Umm. I had an agenda when I took those photos. A pair of agendas actually. And a perfect day: many people took nice photos today at this morning's Embarcardero Farmer's Market.

I've wanted a phone camera that could replace carrying an SLR around. So I took subject-oriented photos as if I were on a serious SLR shooting session.
I also wanted to prove that Pocket-Lint's low rating is totally out of whack with what can be achieved.

That said. With any photo shoot you don't keep/present everything from the shoot.

There were a few times when the camera let me down. I'm awaiting the upcoming camera patch to see if the issue is resolved before I voice a complaint w/posted examples. (I've had on two occasions found the camera unwilling to maintain focus on my subject. Interestingly both times these shots were views from one room into another room of chefs working. The focus wouldn't maintain where I wanted it to be. All of those copper pot bottoms, slightly out of focus! I wasn't happy with that set.)

Ah the holy grail of a DSLR in a phone.

Well, I think the shots you posted certainly rival a DSLR at the posted resolution, which I think is pretty much the mark HTC was trying to hit. Obviously, a DSLR is going to be easier to control and therefore give you more consistent results.

So on the technical side - what adjustments are you finding best regarding contrast/saturation/sharpness?

I was using the default scene settings in all photos. No custom adjustments whatsoever. Sprint HTC One software version 1.29.651.7

When I take a shot I first compose the frame. When it's time to snap the shutter I don't let the camera choose the focus/lighting. I click my screen and observe the result. If I like it, then I click to snap the shot. If I don't then I click again until I have the focus/lighting pairing I want.

You understand that you are doing "spot metering" by doing that.

Couple I took last night. The lights in the sky was fully zoomed. Was just trying to see if they'd show up.

Re: HTC One Camera Pictures : Show us what you got :D

Zoe and Highlights has been training me to take all pictures in horizontal landscape mode, I am very happy with that :)

Re: HTC One Camera Pictures : Show us what you got :D

I gotta say i'm pretty happy with the One's camera. I'm a semi-pro photographer and usage fits perfectly into HTC's intent/marketing. I'm looking forward to the latest update; it seems to fix the contrast and slight white balance issue. Anyways here's a shot I took last night at a dim bar no flash. It edited it snapseed (I usually run most photo through the auto correct)
