One week with my Verizon HTC One, and I love it, but am disappointed with the camera. All of the independent reviews I read online showed One photos compared with the S4 or iPhone 5 show that the level of detail is relatively comparable. The One competes well even with only 4mp.
Compared to my wife's S3, the level of detail of the One's photos don't rally come close. Even my 3 year old Droid X set to 3mp has better detail and the One's photos.
I am wondering if there is something wrong with my One. I have attached samples, so please let e know if I am missing something or if this is just the way the One is.
Thanks

not to sound snarky, but the bottom photo (htc1) looks sharper to me....
maybe compare cropped versions of the same photo?
I borrowed a friends new HTC one to compare with mine. Here are two 100%c crops taken with both phones set to default setting.

Still love the HTC One, but pretty convinced I have an issue with my camera.
Any comments?

This shows more accurately the crappiness of the HTC ONEs camera.
"Been experimenting with the different settings, this was the HDR setting. Very sensitive if the picture is not absolutely still! And I am not as impressed with the camera as I was hoping either. Even the slightest zoom will cause so much blurring and loss of detail"
Nice photo-although due to the nature of how HDR works (usually 3 rapid photos taken at various exposures then merged) it isn't really suitable for motion, on ANY device. To be fair I don't think any camera phones should be used to zoom anyway. Digital zoom doesn't really produce very good results. If you want zoomed in photos you really need a camera with a lens that moves. Focus on what the HTC ONE camera CAN do and use it accordingly. ZOEs are really useful to capture a brief facial expression/moment you might miss otherwise. Continuous shooting is also really good-just look at the examples of high speed photography using an HTC ONE on the official HTC blog.
