HTC One - Dead Screen..

Hi All,

I've had my HTC One since mid April and it's a total joy to use, until now... The screen has just gone dead, the home and back buttons are still lit up though. I've tried restarting and resetting but the buttons just blink a few times then return to steady constant on.

So, I was wandering if anyone else has had this problem, is there a fix or way of restarting I've missed and also is this a known common problem with the One?
Warranty time I guess :\ - takes ages though so fingers crossed for a simpler solution.

cheers

Something like that happened me last night for the first time. My phone went dead and I put it on charge and when I woke up in the morning it wouldn't come on. Kept trying for an hour and trying different button combos and in the end it came back on by me pressing the power button for a few seconds. Needless do say I won't be running the battery down fully again anytime soon.

Cheers mate, at least there's some hope it may come back alive!
I'll report back once the battery has died and I have a chance to recharge.

So success! Lights died, I'm guessing along with the battery, plugged it in and it spooled back up fine.. Hopefully won't happen again

Thanks for the link Chris, so the One has no or an ineffective protection circuit? Is this a known limitation of the phone?

I've rarely found a battery within my upgrade cycle (every 2 years) degrade enough to be a problem, but if it's causing phone failures, I'll have to start being more careful.

I believe the protection circuitry you're referring to is in place within the phone, this protects it from over-charging; but as the article says, in order to keep top performance over time, its best to follow the procedure listed in my other post. Its certainly not a defect though.

I had a similar issue. So the screen wouldn't come on and the home and back button just flashes. Do this should it happen again....

Press and hold the power button until the home and back buttons flash seven times ands then go solid. Once they are solid let go of the power button and begin holding down the volume down button until you are booting or until the bootloader opens. Worked for my friend at least.
