HTC One: Do you honestly need a screen protector?

Re: Do you honestly need a screen protector?

Hell yes. It not only prevents scratches but also prevents cracking and breaking.

Re: Do you honestly need a screen protector?

my first Android phone was an HTC Hero. after 2 years of rough use, it didnt have a single scratch on the screen and also was great at resisting smudges. the next one was a Samsung Nexus S4G. after 2 years of babying it and never having anything else in my pocket with it, it has lots of very fine scratches. they are almost all curved and matching the motion of my thumb swiping on the screen. apparently my fingernail caused all these. it is also a smudge magnet. that said, when i get the HTC One its getting a screen protector

Re: Do you honestly need a screen protector?

I never used a screen protector until I scratched my Nexus 4 screen... So there you go haha.

Well as soon as I get a scratch I'm going to get one too ;)

Re: Do you honestly need a screen protector?

My last 3 touchscreen phones did not have screen protectors. Their screens are mint. I just look after the phone

Nice. I try to be careful with my phones.

Re: Do you honestly need a screen protector?

I wonder what'd happen if you got a replacement glass for the phone, and glued it on around the top and sides. If you could get away with that, it's what I'd do.

I think they make glass screen protectors that are washable and I if I do I get a screen protector it will be a glass one.

Re: Do you honestly need a screen protector?

My phone is a tool. A device that works for me. Not me for it. And it's not cheap. So i have a screen protector to protect my investment without me having to baby it. I don't throw my phone around or anything and I take care of my stuff. But I'm not going to handle it like it's some fragile piece of priceless jewelry. And sometimes I do put it in my pocket. And I dont plan to keep it forever. So i have a bumper case and a screen protector. And when I sell it in 2 years when I get my next upgrade, the phone will be pristine.

Doesn't matter if your last five phones have never gotten a scratch. It can happen at any time. Your choice.

Re: Do you honestly need a screen protector?

Anyone find a screen protector that doesn't affect the home and back buttons? .

Not exactly, I have a Zagg that I got free from Best Buy Mobile when I got my phone. It really affected the button responsiveness, so I trimmed it with an x-acto knife (while it was on the phone). Buttons work great now. Protectors really seem to diminish sensitivity.

Any incident where the screen of my phone gets scratched is going to be bad, with or without a protector. I don't "baby" my phones, I just don't put them in my pocket with rubies. Taking care of and babying are two different things. I take care of my car so as not to have it die but I doubt anyone I know would say I "baby" it.

Edit: I DO throw my phone around. I set it down roughly at times. I slide it across my desk. It goes in my pocket, with change or my keys. Still looks brand new. Very few things you will encounter, except maybe sand are hard enough to scratch gorilla glass. Feel free to use a screen protector but it's likely the scratches you'll doubtless get on that(screen protector) would not have happened on the bare glass.

If hated the zagg screen protectors. This reminds me of how unresponsive the galaxy Nexus's screen is. Wow. My HTC One is sleeping.

Re: Do you honestly need a screen protector?

I normally use them. Since hearing about the back and home buttons being unresponsive I haven't put on a screen protector. I've had good experiences with the Steinheil crystal clear screen protector. It's pretty much like using a phone without a screen protector.

18 months, no screen protector, no case and no problems. Just slide phone into empty pocket (keyword - empty) and enjoy my day.

Re: Do you honestly need a screen protector?

Funny because I just reluctantly put my screen protector on today after about 3 weeks of use without it. It is truly a pleasure using the phone without one. The clarity is the same but I love feeling that glass. But the honeymoon phase is over and i will eventually baby the phone less and less.

I always use screen protectors to keep the phone in mint condition so when I sell it in 9-12 months it can get top dollar.

But I actually went without a protector on my GS3 for the last few months of ownership. Just one or two very light scratches that are near impossible to see. So i guess as long as you have a decent case, avoid sand, and pockets full of junk you might be ok.

Re: Do you honestly need a screen protector?

No screen protector on my HTC Sensation. Had it for 18 months and zero scratch on screen. I was always careful with putting it into my left pocket which was always empty. I did accidentally launch it onto my kitchen tile floor once and it landed face down, but it survived with zero scratch.
I take care of my stuff but I wouldn't call babying them. A screen protector just dulls the screen a bit much for my taste, and I'd tried some high dollar great quality protectors in my days.

My buttons seem responsive. Probably because I don't use one.
