HTC One for Verizon

It will devalue, but only after it is discovered, someone has to roll the dice. Then there's the follow on goodwill the person will receive from others who benefit from the knowledge and reciprocate in one way or another.

Well let me retract any good will so as to not positively affect the end user's value :).

lol true. But that knowledge could have been gleaned from other sources, like Google, so its relative value will diminish significantly once it's properly valued. ;)

Someone has to be the test dummy. And I agree it's a pain the *** to return things you buy online.. but to some people it's worth the knowledge they would aquire doing so.

That's not enough to get it on Verizon's network. It has to have Verizon's proprietary binaries, too and Verizon has to have it's IMEI in their database.

This. Whenever a device connects to Verizon's CDMA network, it undergoes an authorization process. For a device to connect to Verizon's LTE network, it has to first be authorized by the CDMA network, then have a valid sim card for LTE to properly function. If Verizon had already shutdown it's CDMA network, and the HTC One only had Verizon's LTE bands, then, theoretically, this would work.

This is why I can't wait for the world to move to universal LTE. Each phone would be a global phone, and have access to LTE bands around the world, all integrated into one radio.

Well I hope it works for those on Big Red. I am on AT&T and will be able to upgrade end of May. I found the one at walmart for $148 on contract with AT&T.

Me, too, but I can't see Verizon giving up control like that! I think they will hang onto both networks unless it becomes fiscally unfeasible to keep both.

I agree. Verizon isn't going to let go until someone, ala the FCC, tells them to.

That's cute.
I can site specific examples to back up my claim. Gay marriage is the most recent issue to come to mind. It wasn't all that long ago that even democrats from red states opposed it as anti-family. Now republicans from red states support it. That didn't happen via big corporations making campaign contributions. That happened because politicians realized the growing popular support for gay marriage necessitated them reversing their positions or facing being voted out of office.

Blind cynicism isn't cute.

Perhaps Verizon isn't holding the ONE because of the Droid DNA.
Its only been out for a few months, if they sold the ONE, sales would fall.
Perhaps Verizon will get the next HTC Flagship.

Damn, if this worked I'd pre-order an unlocked version right away.
Like everyone else is saying though, VZW is the equivalent of a nazi service provider, so there's like a .0001% chance this would work.

One could dream though right?
