HTC One Google Edition Pros/Cons/Thoughts Discussion

I noticed that and was dismayed by this, too. I'm hoping that a download from the Play Store will still give a fully functioning Google Wallet app, though.

I hope so! But Phil said the app was blocked from his model using an ATT SIM. I wonder if you can sideload the APK. Once I see this working I might pull the trigger, certainly not before. Not shelling out 600 and still not get google wallet.

From what I've seen and tested, the IR blaster still works. However, you need to buy an app off of the Play Store called, "Smart IR Remote for HTC One" in order to take advantage of its functionality. The downside to it is that the app is $9.99, so it may not be an option for some people.

I'm running the ROM of it; I don't have the actual GE. Everything is just so darn smooth and better than the AOSP ROMs out currently. Now it's just the difficult decision of staying on stock or going back to Sense...

I'm more likely to leave my Nexus 4 for a Google Edition One than a Google Edition S4. Really might depend on the price point for me.

That's exactly what I'm doing. In fact, I was actually super close to trading up from the Nexus 4 to a regular unlocked HTC One, but I really wanted to make sure I got to keep my tethering and hotspot features alive, so I decided not to and literally 3 weeks later, the Google Edition comes out. I ordered one the other day, but I paused for a few minutes on the order submit button because I kept looking at that $650 price (after taxes). :'( But I am really loving the idea of not having a contract with AT&T!

What is up with Google wallet not being in the HTC one but on the s4? Both of these phones have some drawbacks. I will wait for real world reviews before deciding.

I think this shows the OEMS are putting out some great devices!

Can anyone verify whether it can be downloaded from the Play store later? Considering Google Wallet didn't come on my Nexus 4 either maybe it's just not loaded on the HTC One by default?!

Yes, can anyone confirm that you can either download or side load Google wallet and that it works. It came on my Nexus 4 and is preinstalled on the S4 Google edition. That is one feature I want before spending 650.

Before everyone goes and blows $10 on this app, IT DOES NOT WORK for the GE. So don't waste your money on this. Not sure why this misinformation is being passed on but it doesn't work.

No, you can't download it from the Play Store. I'm going to check sideloading as soon as I find the link to the .apk file.

The hardware secure element is not in any HTC One devices except the Sprint version.
