Do need to start taking Zor pics of things I want to eventually use for Zoe or can I use ANY pics I've taken for a Zoe?

Unfortunately you have to enter the Zoe mode beforehand. If you hold down the shutter button long enough in Zoe mode, it will lock and you can take an unlimited Zoe. The m7 had a three second time limit which they've addressed on the m8.

Depends who you're targeting. 99%+ won't ever discuss the features on a phone forum, nor are they really interested in the specs because they don't know what that means, relatively speaking. I think the Oldman ad was brilliant because it took someone "cool" and had him saying that people in the know go with HTC. It tells the consumer that they don't need to worry about a dizzying task of selecting a great phone, this is the one that the smart, cool people buy.

However, in press releases I think they did a horrid job ad featuring the strengths of the cam and that was shown by public misconception and even reviewers not understanding it. IMO, their mainstream advertising was simple and correct but supplemental info couldn't have been worse. I still don't know what Zoe does and am continually figuring out the cam and other features on my own.

You don't have to speak on the specs. But SHOW people USING the phone. I'm not going to listen to an old dude who I don't even know tell me I need a phone that you haven't even shown me one thing about. Its ineffective to me. I understand that different people respond to different methods but that particular commercial doesn't seem like one that is moving many phones off the shelf. I feel like that ad speaks to why they aren't selling as many phones as other brands. Samsung has name recognition. HTC doesn't. They can't afford these basic ads. They need to do more. Educate us on what a Zoe does. A 30 second commercial slot can inform us on that feature. And on reviews across the web you'll see Zoe's are a very popular feature. But HTC isn't telling us about these things.

Each of them is a couple hundred pixels across, like an old sms upload. I have a positive impression of thr color but there is no way to make out any details.

The camera should be decent. The most I'll ever do is upload pictures to Facebook or Imgur. A higher megapixel camera would be nice though.

When it comes to smartphones, the camera and how good it is/isn't has never been a major thing for me. Albeit, when the BlackBerry 9900 was released, I hated the fact that it didn't have auto focus. It had some 'new' system, that, to me was a pain.

Anyway, I digress; when I start to use this camera, I hope it is a simple point and click. I don't really have time to set too many options just to take a 'random' photo. If I want something better, then I'll grab my DSLR

If you understand how to use your DSLR you won't have any issues with the M8. In fact I'd guess you will love it.

I agree. Camera is great for social media and to share photos across mobile devices. However, if you are viewing it on a high resolution display, photos look washed out and blurry with a lot of detail loss.

A 4mp picture has a resolution of 2688x1520, which is higher than your monitor. Just saying

I was just letting you know it's highly unlikely to have any detail loss when the original image is of a higher resolution than the monitor you are viewing them on.

If pictures look washed out you can adjust the saturation on your m8 camera. Turn it up a little bit and take a picture, then see how it looks on your monitor

If pictures look washed out you can adjust the saturation on your m8 camera. Turn it up a little bit and take a picture, then see how it looks on your monitor

Most digital camera images, even DSLR and mirrorless look a bit nasty at 1:1 pixel ratio. It's just a fact. This is why I converted to embracing UHD phone video, because at least it barely passes when exported at 1080p in post.

Commentary witheld, I think your camera and mic did pretty well with the pulsing overhead lights. A challenging setup for digital sensors.

While we're here getting all picky about pixels, focus and OIS... My officemate sitting three seats away was telling the row about how happy he was to be rid of his iPhone and how wonderful his new phone is and best of all it has a really fab camera... Of course it was the M8.
